Do I need a new PSU?

I've just been reading a review on the graphics card I've just bought (9800GT) and it said that I need around 26 amps on the 12v rail to run the card. The PSU I have is a Hiper 480w and the spec is here:

http://www.cluboc.net/reviews/power/hypergroup/hiper480/2.htm

Will this PSU be good enough to power my card as I'm not really an expert and there seems to be more than one 12v rail :twitch:

The processor I'm getting is a Q6600 and the ram is OCZ 4gb Gold.

Thank you.

If you don`t overclock than IMO you will be ok. But with overclocking you have to try to know. Overclocking can double the consumption of power.

You'll should be okay with the 9800GT, but anything more powerful you'll probably struggle. Make a PSU your next upgrade.

Ok, thanks. My only real worry was that neither rail supplies 26amps. Does this matter or do they just combine with each other?

Yes, one of the rails has 18A, and the other has 16A. This combined is 32 amps, which will be more than enough to power a 9800GT.

Thanks for the help guys.
I will build my computer next weekend and see how it runs with the current PSU.

Thanks

Your fine with that PSU...But if you want to look into overclocking you will need to upgrade!!
