Yeah 35°C is too low, what is your GPU model? To search the VBIOS.
FTW3 Ultra. Its in the system specs. I don't really know what searching the VBIOS is going to tell you about Afterburner giving false numbers. PX1 updated the cards firmware at least once that I can recall, may have been twice, not sure.

to OP, Afterburner is wrong currently. Do not rely on afterburner for fan speeds.

afterburner gives all sorts of weird readings and dodgy fan control on my waterforce 3080 and my galax 3090, so at this stage afterburners ampere support should be considered very very beta

fan curve or manual fan control gives me maybe 3 actual settings that apply, 0% 35% 60% and 100% - nothing in between (numbers are made up, but close enough)

I was kind of figuring it was something with the new cards. I am also not on the newest driver, I am using 460.79. So it may just be Afterburner since PX1 seems to report correct.

Oh you're correct, weird thing tho, it has to be an issue with MSI AB I guess, since mine shows it correctly, I'm using latest beta (RTX 3060Ti Gaming OC PRO)

Just to confirm, when the card is idle at 35°C or less it will activate fan stop after a few minutes, 36° idle and up it will not stop the fans?
It just cuts off at 34. It was at 1000 RPM for some time, and the temperature of the card slowly dropped from >60 to 34C and at 34 the fans cut off. The process took 5 minutes.

Which driver are you currently using?

What are the reported fan speeds when unchecking the user defined fan speeds box in the fan tab in the settings of Afterburner. This is how Afterburner should look if you want to use the cards own fan factory fan settings which should have idle fan stop higher than 34c.

I just noticed that GPU-Z is showing the same false results as Afterburner. The only one showing correct results for me currently is PX1.

What are the false speeds? The tachometer readings shown there are tallying. Are you talking about percentage?

The tach is correct but the percentages are not. That is using PX1 to control the fans. PX1 is saying 23% 750rpm while GPU-Z and Afterburner are showing doubled percentages. Afterburner is allowing fan stop but if I try to use their percentages for a custom curve close to their lower limit it doesn't act right. If I try the 30% like Afterburner says then its really 15% in PX1 and my fans don't support that slow of a speed so they flick on/off.

I guess it doesn't really solve your original issue of your fan stop being triggered at 34c though. I guess just don't trust Afterburner at the moment. To clarify about which of those pics in post #33 is what Afterburner should look like for factory fan settings it is the first pic, (Screenshot 250).

My EVGA card has its bios set to cut off the fans at 30%. So we cant stop the behavior without a new bios?

PX1 is saying 23% 750rpm while GPU-Z and Afterburner are showing doubled percentages.
Mine is a FE card, it's not having that issue. (Not sure if it's not having that issue BECAUSE it's a FE card).
I've verified the minimum and maximum percentages of the fans, and I could say maybe they're inaccurate to within a few % of the RPM value, but are otherwise correct.
Minimum(card-enforced): 1000 RPM
30%(MSI:A enforced): ~1100 RPM
55%(MSI:A enforced): ~1900 RPM
100%(MSI:A enforced): 3750 RPM(loud!)

Thankfully, NVIDIA have tuned the default BIOS well. Even at a temperature of 76C the fans only go up to 50% at around 1750 RPM, and that is enough to hold the card at 76C in FurMark at a board power draw of 200W.

The only issue I have with the default configuration is the low cutoff temperature of 34C.

So I have a bit of semi-happy news on this.
I never could get the fan control to work on cutoff at 40C, but I realized when I closed a game and the fans cutoff below 34C at idle, even when I started a new game, they didn't immediately start back up after 34C was crossed. Even at temperatures of 40 or 45, the fans remained at zero. For staying like that for some time(not measured how much) they started up again.

So, I'm kinda happy - as long as the temperature drops below 34 at idle and the fans stop, they should remain stopped for the majority of idle times.
