Does RevoUninstaller (Free) Update Automatically?

I have RevoUninstaller on my PC just for convenience, it's not really an app I use a lot; I installed the free version in February, when the latest version was from December 2022 (2.4.2)

I've opened it up again recently and the application in the top left of the screen says 2.4.5, which according to the website is the latest Free version, from July

I did use Revo to get rid of DriverEasy in July (dunno why I had DriverEasy tbh) but I strongly do not believe I ever went to the website to update

I definitely don't have anything Revo-related in my Downloads aside from the initial February installer.

does it update automatically? anyone know?

Almost every program is set to update during first install. There is very little chance of a free program failing to set this option in my experience.

Simply go into settings and uncheck the option to update. It should be fine from there on out.

I agree - almost every program has an auto-update feature and worse, almost every one is enabled by default. And worse still, is many also install an update program that runs EVERY time you boot that periodically (from every few minutes to a few times a day) "call home" and check for updates. :(

Even if you can trust these programs that start with Windows to be legit and NOT malicious, at best they unnecessarily consume resources, at worse they consume so many resources they start to impact performance. :(

I ALWAYS disable these features EXCEPT on my primary, real-time anti-malware program.

For every other program, I (and recommend you) go through the menu options and look for auto-update features, then disable them. "IF" it has an option to check for updates when you start the program, you might want to enable that.

But beware. (1) If you have not used a program in a while, you should make sure it is current (or gets updated) the next time you use it. And (2), after you update this rarely used program, check your options menu again to make sure it did not reset the default back to auto-update.

BTW, this is just another reason why we should ALWAYS use the custom install option whenever installing any program. Then read the options carefully to "opt out" of any extras and features you don't want or need.
