New controller time as they aren't built to be repairable
That's kind of how I feel about it too, sadly. That said, I use a PS controller; every time I look at one wrong they break (in one way or another). I think I'm on like my 6th dual sense now...maybe more than that.
It's usually the sticks, not just drift but L3/R3, but I've had all kinds of issues (no longer charging correctly, face buttons sticking even OOTB, wonky triggers from a [even a small] fall like this, etc).
IMHO taking *those* apart (I don't know if current XB is similar) just isn't worth it, at least not to me. I understand some people *have* to make them work, and recommend watching someone like TronicsFix, etc.
There is so much stuff that bugs me about their design; everything hidden under 50 screws w/ rails/guards/etc intended not to be touched; they really make it a (intentional) nightmare to fix simple problems.
Much different than earlier controllers, which I thought were generally pretty easy to fix/mod (I use to mod my controllers w/ bigger batteries, back bumpers, trigger stops; fix sticks etc).
Now I just throw on some extenders w/ silicone caps and pray it lasts a year (which they usually don't).
For me, the best solution to many problems is probably *always run* or *click to run* if not the option for always automatic fire...but ain't no fixing a sometimes stupidly small drop often screwing them up.
Which, again, I feel is by design, and doesn't make me happy. It's not just that they're relatively expensive, just there's so much tech crammed into these things now and it's always simple shit that breaks/wears out.
That should be easily repairable to salvage all the rest of it, but in reality just isn't feasible (especially for most people) most of the time imo. Unless you really want to break out the microscope/tweezers,
I hope in this case it's a simple fix that goes well...all I can tell you is that in my experience with this latest round of controllers it usually isn't worth the time/effort (to me), but champion those that do repair them.
