how can i fix it? it hit my elbow few days ago and developed this issue. I have applied some passive solutions but they don't work. It's not that bad but not satisfying as well when you play as you can easily tell the difference compared to RB, do i need to open it? does it have to do with retention clip or something?

Which version of the xbox controller? There is 5 now.

New controller time as they aren't built to be repairable

I've taken apart x360 and X1 controllers. The bummers are directly pressing a pad/button on the PCB. not much you can do about fixing that. Maybe the clips for the LB is out of place now?

Honestly I dropped my controllers multiple times a day. They are really durable.

it hit my elbow then fell to the ground really hard, it was more than a normal fall. I might buy some budget controller in couple of months as i don't have funds in the mean time it's still solid and different is not big in grand scheme of things.

Just take it apart and see if the clip is out of wack.

That's kind of how I feel about it too, sadly. That said, I use a PS controller; every time I look at one wrong they break (in one way or another). I think I'm on like my 6th dual sense now...maybe more than that.
It's usually the sticks, not just drift but L3/R3, but I've had all kinds of issues (no longer charging correctly, face buttons sticking even OOTB, wonky triggers from a [even a small] fall like this, etc).

IMHO taking *those* apart (I don't know if current XB is similar) just isn't worth it, at least not to me. I understand some people *have* to make them work, and recommend watching someone like TronicsFix, etc.
There is so much stuff that bugs me about their design; everything hidden under 50 screws w/ rails/guards/etc intended not to be touched; they really make it a (intentional) nightmare to fix simple problems.
Much different than earlier controllers, which I thought were generally pretty easy to fix/mod (I use to mod my controllers w/ bigger batteries, back bumpers, trigger stops; fix sticks etc).
Now I just throw on some extenders w/ silicone caps and pray it lasts a year (which they usually don't).

For me, the best solution to many problems is probably *always run* or *click to run* if not the option for always automatic fire...but ain't no fixing a sometimes stupidly small drop often screwing them up.
Which, again, I feel is by design, and doesn't make me happy. It's not just that they're relatively expensive, just there's so much tech crammed into these things now and it's always simple shit that breaks/wears out.
That should be easily repairable to salvage all the rest of it, but in reality just isn't feasible (especially for most people) most of the time imo. Unless you really want to break out the microscope/tweezers,

I hope in this case it's a simple fix that goes well...all I can tell you is that in my experience with this latest round of controllers it usually isn't worth the time/effort (to me), but champion those that do repair them.

New microswitch

It might be the same as the Logitech F310 controller switch problem.

The switch itself was moving back in its carrier when pressed. The fix was quite simple, as I just narrowed the back of the carrier as can be seen in the picture below.

i don't understand, can you explain what do you mean by narrowed back of the carrier? Picture is not clear, i need a hi-res one

Have you tried to take it apart yet? I bet it is a easy fix and the clip is just out of place or plastic chipped and stuck.

See the switch at the center, how it can move back in the carrier?

i will let my brother do it, i am not comfortable doing these things especially considering xbox series x/s controller need pliers and stuff as they are not held by screw i was also looking at replacement guide someone provided and it's very delicate for bumper part (some clip thing residing in it, which was missed by guide and someone in the comments break it)

i will have a look, tomorrow probably bit exhausted rn. To me does seem nothing is broken just something out of place hopefully nothing is broken but i can order replacement parts as they are available on amazon india and not too expensive.
