Dual Socket MB / 1 Cpu (testing) 2nd Socket no Pin Cover .. Ok ?

Long story ...

Have Dual Socket MB it works, 2x Sets (4cpus) , however my Newest ones from Ebay dont work. Their is A clicking being made when they are installed.

I assume one of the CPU is bad, I want to run the MB with just one CPU in socket one , however I do not have the CPU socket Pin cover plastic thingy.

Can I run the motherboard with One CPU installed and the other with no CPU however the CPU bracket is down and their is no plastic between the bracket and pins ?

Yeah use clear plastic tape.

Put cardboard over it tape it down to protect the socket.

either or both of the Above and
Just mount the cooler over the socket latch as if a CPU is Fitted ( after taping over the CPU latch)
Cooler Fan adds to case Air Circulation
