whats the difference besides core clock speed, since the E6600 is overcloakable to 3.4GHz with the new nvidia 680i chipset why would you even consider an x6800?
 
I think the 6800 can oc to alot more, the 6700 can hit like 5? on water I believe... forget exactly.
 
see but if I get the E6600 to 2.93GHz i've then bought a $1000 chip for $300, which a E6600 can do no problem with stock cooling. I've even heard they run so cool with no heatsink at all you can run a Conroe without OCing.
 
e6600 is a good cpu, but I heard e6700 is a better ocer (from what I heard, I'm somewhat new to this stuff :P)

At launch time, Intel's price for the Core 2 Extreme X6800 was $999 USD each in quantities of 1000. Like the desktop Core 2 Duo, it has 4 MB of shared L2 cache available. This means that the only major difference between the regular Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Extreme is the clock speed, which is unusual for the "Extreme Edition." It does come with an unlocked multiplier, however, allowing it to basically simulate any E6x00 with 4 MB of L2 cache. This also allows it to gain a better overclocking ability than the other Core 2 processors, with up to a 11X multiplier. Intel's previous Extreme Editions all included a unique feature, such as an increased FSB, more L2 cache, or addition of L3 cache.

Overclocking proves more promising, as Intel allows the user to change the multiplier number. The X6800 has shown the ability to be overclocked to 3.6 GHz on Intel's stock cooler with no increase in voltage to the system components, 4.1 GHz with good air cooling and increased voltage, and over 5.5 GHz with liquid nitrogen cooling."
 
yeah the X6800 is like an 'exteme edition'....overclocks like a beast

what i wanna know is if its worth spending the money on an e6600 from e6400 for the extra 2mb of L2 cache....like the e6600 is almost double price, so is cache really worth it? (i dont k now much about the cache)
 
really doesnt matter
a 66 a 67 and 68 ocs like exactly the same on air ond water you maybe get a 100 mgh more out of a 68 only under cascade/single stage/ ln2/ dry ice the core really matters
although some 66 reaches a 5gig

see, my point exactly, which is exactly why i bought a E6600 and a Zalman CNPS9500 (im extremely pissed the CNPS9700 came out very soon after i bought mine :banghead: )

If your going to buy a quad core i can see that, its a whole other processor on the chip, literally a lot better performance and fsb out of the box.

I read a review saying the newer 9700 has the same proformance as 9500, only I think it may be quieter since it has a bigger fan.
I'm getting a 9500At this coming up week :, is it silent?
 
X6800 - Can OC well because u can add more multipliers, thats it. You can OC to 4.5Ghz on watercooling.
E6600 - You can only OC the FSB and ur left with a x9 multiplier. You can OC to 3.5Ghz on watercooling.

The difference beetween 1.5Ghz and 2.5Ghz is somewhat big. The difference beetween 2.5Ghz and 3.5Ghz is small, so the difference beetween 3.5Ghz and 4.5Ghz is almost nothing - less than nothing in games (seriously, not even 1 FPS).
So now, is it worth it spend 1000$ on the X6800? Of course not, unless ur too stupid to take 5 mins in order to OC. Is the E6600 for 350$ worth ur money? Thats a joke right.. ?

But then theres even better news - the E6400 can OC to 3.2Ghz on watercooling and costs only 250$. The only draw back is the cache, wich is only half - 2MB. This may influence ur choice on wich Core 2 Duo to purchase, but dont expect to see a difference in games..
 
the extra 2mb in teh cache for teh e6600 etc adds like 5-10% in benchmarks, i read

i have an asrock dual vsta, & i was thinking of getting like a msi 965p platinum
because teh oc is much better.is that true.does ddr 2 make a big difference ?

is that gigabyte cpu cooler any use pinchy. i might get one for xmas
 
my 6300 goes to 3.7ghz on air.temps are about 41ish idle and 61c maxxed.i need to do some tweaking to get it stable but it WILL do it.with h2o it would be sweet(note to self get some h2o gear).that is with 1.425v.100% oc.

the only noise you hear is the air rushing through the fins, the fan itself is dead ass silent! :rockout:

my 6300 goes to 3.7ghz on air.temps are about 41ish idle and 61c maxxed.i need to do some tweaking to get it stable but it WILL do it.with h2o it would be sweet(note to self get some h2o gear).that is with 1.425v.100% oc.

Whaaaaaat?!?! 3.7GHz thats insane!!
 
and a normal 66 will do 3,6-3,8 on water too on air maybe 3,8 gets a problem
