Just imagine what that would be like? Surely yes we have eGPU's but What-if we somehow made this possible? (Like just the Card with a Small Fan) Surely we could but we just never got around doing it

I think there are a small handful that do exist... In any case you can mod a 16x pci-ex card to fit a pci-ex 1x or 2x slot and it would still work albeit slower in performance

So... a pcie add in card that holds m.2 devices? Those are already out...for a while.

No just a video card for msata slots. The Laptop's screen of course would be the display. I know All about the M.2/msata PCIe card

What would be the point? How do you propose to get vram on there? How effective is this video card through m.2 supposed to be when its limited by pcie x4 lanes? It only holds things back several percent but still. Its in a laptop? Good to know 6 posts in....

Seems like a silly idea to me. Sorry.

There were dedicated video/audio accelerators out there -> https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003TU07GU/?tag=tec06d-20

OP probably wants normal GPU in M.2/mPCIe form factor. While somehow doable, there will be two problems: very limited power for use (3.3V rail with very limited amperage on those connectors), and small size making it hard to dissipate heat.

Long story short, such GPU due to thermal and power limitations would be slower than iGPUs out there. No point in making those. If you need additional display adapter, there are already some using USB.

Still it's be better then on-board video. Like if they made a GTX750ti that's be cool. Just wishing but course they'd make the PSU abit more powerful

...but 1080Ti would be even cooler! :p

Again, check power requirements. You can't draw 50W out of M.2/mPCIe connector.

Maybe... but youve seen how small gpus can get and they arent close to m.2 size. No telling how little performance would fit on 80mm stick... not much. Little power available too...

Thunderbolt port and egpu enclosure is another solution.

Or buy a laptop with a discrete gpu for similar costs to adding an m.2 gpu.

Yeah, sorry... i dont see the worth in this in the least.

Power requirements and form factor would all make this idea impossible with today's GPU's. And even if you could, it would be no faster than what the laptop already has.

the dGPU adapters generally use the Wifi card port in a Laptop, and work with a Phantom Power brick. a real "affair" in my opinion, not worth the trouble, unless there is simply no other choice, as your at a point where You may as well be rocking a Desktop if Your running a full sized dGPU , with Power plugs, mounts/stands , etc/./.

not that anyone asked, but ........

thsi is one of the nicer ones ive seen

with its sleeve housing it looks finished nicely

another really nice one, but at what point does a person realize they are connecting a Desktop w/o a monitor to their laptop ;) cool tech though

and then theres Crap like these that look really messy and half assed

Using internal mPCIe slot is even more ghetto, especially if there is no special hatch for it, and you have to remove whole bottom cover ;)

Been there, done that. Still, PCIe x1 is a bottleneck.
But, on some laptops it is possible to join two x1 lanes (i.e. EC+mPCIe) into one x2.

The optimal solution is a laptop with PCIe x4 enabled M.2 connector, and using ribbon extender. Still ghetto, but won't cost an arm. Assuming bios won't cause too many problems.

Thunderbolt is nice, but tax for it is absurdly high.
