I was very very excited when the Empire: Total War demo was released on Steam, I own all of the Total War entries to the series.

Anyway, every time I launch the demo through Steam it crashes. Doesn't launch the game at all, just gives you one of those generic failed to launch messages.

If you look on Steam's forums, everyone else with Vista Ultimate 64-bit is suffering too...

I hope this problem doesn't carry over to the retail copy. Medieval Total War 2 also had some 64-bit problems that were directly connected to the UAC.

Didn't someone else already post about a similar problem when using Vista 64-bit??
Yup, it was posted before and they didn't post back a fix either.

It's strange that is, I downloaded the demo lsat night and tried it this morning, it's running pretty smooth on my system and it looks stunning too!

It does however take a small while to load up to get the game running, nothing major. I'm running Vista Ultimate x64, and according to our specs, my system is running a more older video card that yours... As with the guy in the other thread, although only difference is I'm not running SLi or Crossfire in your case.

I know I can't offer much help on this issue, but what I would try recommending is checking the fragmentation of the game itself too, and also if nothing works, redownload the game and when it's loading up, it DOES ask you in Vista a Yes / No question, I can't remember for the life of me, it's most likely something to do with the UAC thing, just can't think off the top of my head, sorry :(

Hope it helps a little!
