evga 3070 ddr6 chip upgrade??

Hi all, does the info in the pic mean that the bios supports 8Gbit and 16Gbit sizes natively? Could I swap the 8Gbit chips with 16Gbit chips (8GB->16GB)?
The card is an:
EVGA 3070 XC3 8GB
PN: 08G-P5-3755-KL

From my deduction, the blue text is signifying that I have 8Gbit Samsung chips?? After finding this hex editor and seeing this info, I have yet to take the heatsink off and check the physical chips.

While VBIOS strap entries are there - they are just hypothesis, since some of them actually has non-working data in other linked+required VBIOS tables. People typically has more-or-less success with Samsung 16Gb strap entries. And even those tend to have problems on LOW frequencies (random&often black screens on desktop without load), so must be forced to high frequency via setting Nvidia App to maximum performance:

Note: the currently-selected strap is not stored in a VBIOS but selected by a strap resistors on the board. So the tool that parses the variants event in theory can't extract the current value from a VBIOS file

where did they buy the memory chips?
You can find them on AliExpress, but as StViolenceDay mentioned, everyone who made this change experienced random black screens on the desktop without any load. From what I've researched, they all seemed to have tried using Samsung memory. However, I'm not sure if that was the only type that worked or if it was simply the one they happened to use.
 
Yes, it can be done BUT there is a physical chip check on the pcb that corresponds with each OEM's chip type in the firmware. So it has to be the same manufacturers VRAM, say Samsung, but just the bigger chip variant. Its not really hard to do, but it has to be done right and you gotta make sure you check the pcb ball pads under the chips that they are all there and not damaged after you pull each chip etc... Really its better left to a pro to do who has the correct tools.

The few schematics I've seen with strap info showing higher density seem to be all Samsung chips. Maybe they were first to release such a chip?

The low power state black screen with higher density chips is interesting. Here's another 3070 8GB to 16GB video where they mention that problem and to use "prefer maximum performance" nvidia option to avoid it. (around the 9 minute mark)

IIRC there was a Hynix to Samsung mod there too.

Forgot, FWIW VRAM and current config strap can be read from software.

Thank you for the replies all! Really.

So it is not just a matter of just replacing the physical chips, but re-arranging another physical connection on the board to tell the driver/bios what memory config is being utilized.... need the datasheet on the board to set that, hell not gonna just guess... Thanks bunches
