Hi!

I have a Seagate Expansion External Drive 2TB and have problems with it.
http://www.seagate.com/docs/pdf/datasheet/disc/ds_ext_desktop.pdf
First: When restarting my PC or rebooting it takes sometime forever but instantly happens if i disconnect the external drive power.
Secondly: My PC loses the drive sometimes and i have to disconnect and reconnect power to it.
Maybe it is because i use a lot of sleep mode on the PC.

What could case the problems? Whats the solution?

How is your USB ports setup for power save? OS or BIOS?

Have you tried a different USB port? Different USB HDD?

Did you have boot to USB devices enabled?

How old is it? Can you run a Check Disk on the drive? Could be a failing controller, could be a failing drive...I would start by checking for errors. I suppose if it wont' stay connected for that much, try a different port. if that fails, take the HDD out of the case and hope it's just a SATA connection that you can then just install to your PC, then test using CHKDSK and get a SMART utility such as Crystal Disk Info, Speccy, etc....and see if the drive is bad...if not...get a cheap USB2/3 housing. Or get a new USB HDD if it fails.

My USB ports are not set up for power save - i didnt do nothing other than connect the drive.
Where do i change those power save settings?

I changed the USB power saving options and now the drive lets me shut down the PC without waiting forever :)
