HELP!

Yesterday I was flashing my 280x with AtiWinflash (as I've done a lot of times), but this time Atiwinflash crash.

The gpu was still working so I thought that nothing append, but this morning I start the PC and... No video output, so I think I've done something to the BIOS, how can I revert to the original?

P.S. my 280x DOESN'T have a dual BIOS

pleeeeees I'm quite desperate

Hi

dose the PC boot to bios with video? [*If No]

dose the PC boot in safe mode? [*If yes use DDU in safe mode prior to flashing]

*need a second PCIe vga card, onboard vga /igp or PCI vga card [place card in second PCIe Slot or use onboard vga as primary device to view screen]

Will require
Backup copy or original VBios image
USB Flash Driver

**If you are able to access windows with a spare vga card or onboard vga; Uninstall any AMD drivers for the vga card before the flash process**
Create a bootable flash drive
go here
Download - HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool - v2.1.8 & Windows 98 System Files

click Primary Download unzip the files to a folder on your HDD; make sure your USB Memory stick is attached to your PC; open HP USB Disk

Storage Format Tool v2.1.8 ; select Creat a DOS startup disk/ select: using DOS system files located at: (these are the files you have just downloaded): browse to the files in win98boot; then start the process.

Download latest version of ATIFlash
go here

copy atiflash and #VBios name#.rom to the usb flash drives root directory

Set the motherboard bios to boot from usb *press F8 during boot; select from boot menu if option is avalable; this should boot to a win98 dos prompt

Type at the dos prompt - dir to veiw the content of the flash drive

Type at the dos prompt; atiflash -i 0 [see if adapter is at this address and is recognised]

Type at the dos prompt; atiflash -unlockrom 0 to unlock the gpu in adapter 0 [Note: 0 is the primary card PCIe slot one & 1 is the secondary PCIe slot two][*may be required]

Type at the dos prompt; atiflash -f -p 0 #VBiosName#.rom [Note: 0 is the primary card PCIe slot one & 1 is the secondary PCIe slot two] [Note: when booting from onboard vga / igp also = primary position 0]

reboot once finished and remove the flash drive

reinstall AMD Catalyst Drivers

Thanks, I've resolved yesterday after some hours of pain and desperation :peace:

the Pc doesn't boot with video, so I had to search a gpu (my old x700se without fan!), and then I manage to flash the bios via Dos.

I was so scary to have damaged the card! I'll never use again AtiWinflash :shadedshu:

is there a need for you update? if it is working fine then why flash it?

especially if you dont have any background in bios flashing, it is a no go. there is a risk of bricking card of you messed up with bios flashing.

I suggest not use Atiwinflash, flash via DOS, it's by far the safest way, I had a problem with winflash.
After all, it's not that difficult flashing in DOS, as stated above, just follow post #2

but of course, WHY you wanna flash your BIOS?
