Tried out Civ VI on linux via steam, It installed the linux native version by default which ran really bad.
Switched over to using proton and runs really smooth.

Can't imagine a game like this on a handheld no matter how performant or how long the battery lasts. But hey if they can somehow work out the UI to make it fun without m+kb and still maintain all the complexity that's cool.

Yeah, what's up with that? There are quite a few games with this issue. Wonder if it's because they use OpenGL for the Linux version whereas Proton runs the Windows version on Vulkan.

It's usually a combination of the Linux version being an afterthought, being developed by a contractor and bad development practices.

For example the Linux version of Factorio runs circles around the Windows version. Same with Oxygen not Included.

Here's hoping they might achieve something better than Civ V this time, but I have my doubts.

It's been a while but the Firaxis have stopped all work on XCOM, right? I vaguely remember hearing that the XCOM team was laid off or something a year or two ago, but haven't heard anything since...

That news made me sad, I thought that the three XCOM games (+DLCs) we had from Firaxis were excellent.
