**fixed edit**

so i've fixed the problem for now by reverting to 3.6.3 - very dissapointed with mozilla though :(

**original post**

So i've been using firefox for years and never had a single problem, but ever since firefox 3.6.4 has installed (a couple of days ago) i've been getting 10-20 firefox crashes an hour, where firefox will crash completely and need rebooting. All my plugins and addons are up-to-date (including flash).

The only thing which seems to be linked is many of the sites i try to load have flash content which causes the crashes (i can't be 100% certain it is flash content as i never get to see the site loaded). The really annoying thing is firefox is meant to have put flash and other plugins into their own process thread so if they crash the browser remains running.

Everything else on my system is rock solid stability wise, and this is really bugging me as i've never had firefox crash in the years i've used it until the past 2 days.

Anyone got any ideas or has seen this issue?

**edit**

an example of a site which crashes for me is speedtest.net - as soon as the flash stuff loads firefox crashes (screenshot below)

Capture.jpg

stuff i've tried:
- reinstalled the latest version of flash
- disabled any flash based plugins, and then enabled them
- cleared my browser cache

Not all flash content sites crash either - i can load some flash based websites without a single issue.

tried to uninstall Firefox, Java & FlashPlayer with a uninstaller like "Uninstall Tool" or "Your Uninstaller 2010" to make it clean your Windows Registering Database aswell?

just remember to save your FireFox Bookmarks and more before doing this.

I found that if your CPU OC is not stable (voltage to low or the CPU can't use voltage that high) FF will crash a lot.

cpu is rock solid at current speeds/volts. Firefox only started crashing after the latest update - anyone know how to revert to an older version? i was happy with 3.6.3

fixed the problem -reverted to 3.6.3 for now.

Just uninstall Firefox v3.6.4 and re-install v3.6.3. If you want to go the extra yard remove the following entries as well: (Some entries may apply to 64 Bit only)

C:\Users\XXX\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla
C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox or C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
C:\Users\XXX\AppData\Local\Mozilla

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Mozilla

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MozillaPlugins

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Mozilla

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\mozilla.org

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\MozillaPlugins

Firefox will also scan IE caches and this can also cause problems with Firefox. I took care of this little problem by setting IE Options to "Deleting browser history on exit" and "Empty Temporary Internet Files Folder when Browser Close".

I don't know if you're familiar with MozBackup but its a good app for backing up Firefox, themes, settings, extensions, etc.

Just updated my laptop with firefox 3.6 and now my laptop is crashing.

My desktop is fine.... WTF is wrong?

Every time I click on firefox, my laptop would freeze, go black and reboot.

I don't want to unintall firefox now because of all my bookmarks and crap.

AND I can't get to them to "export" or make a backup of the bookmarks because firefox keeps on crashing and freezing my laptop when I try to open in.

What should I do?

You don't need Firefox open to backup your bookmarks with MozBackup. There is a new Firefox release, try that and see if it helps. If you have the same issues, uninstall firefox and remove the entries in my first post then re-install.

FWIW, I had FF crash on open this morning - every time. I checked installed programs and last night there was an update to .net 4 framework. When I uninstalled .net, it didn't crash.

Since I use MS Office and other stuff, I had to reinstall from Windows update. That seems to have worked fine and no more crashes.

My other 2 machines got the same update with similar (but not as much) software, and had no problems, so I'm not sure how a strong a connection there is.

Thanks. Worked perfectly. Uninstalled firefox and installed the latest browser. No more crashing, no more bluescreen. All is good.

Also, when uninstalling firefox it actually asked if you want to delete to keep your cookies/bookmarks, etc. etc. nice.

Glad you got it sorted out, IE is no joy.
