Try an undelete program, because if you have not overwritten the bookmarks file you MAY be able to recover it, provided it was deleted & not corrupt!

(& iirc, in Netscape derivants/descendants, it IS a file (opera too), not folders/subfolder & files like in IE) first...

If this fails??

It might due to defragging disks &/or overwritten the now deleted filespace for your bookmarks?

Well, THEN, try an import/export from your other browsers (this however, assumes you have the SAME ONES from your other browsers too).

(A quick test of whether your bookmarks for FireFox exist or not & can be salvaged? Installing another browser like Opera, which CAN import bookmarks &/or IE Favorites)

... & then, IF it gets them back? IMPORT THEM FROM OPERA USING FIREFOX! It also can do this...

:)

* Some ideas, sorry for late reply, some I don't catch or see, because of other life tasks & events, etc. et al...

APK

P.S.=> Also, it's wise to get into the habit of "sync'ing" your bookmarks/favs between browsers, because in a REAL WAY? It's backup... I have 1,000's here literally, & built them over a decade now, & would NOT want to lose them! Additionally, find out where they are on disk (IE is own folder & subdirectories under it, & Opera + FireFox/Netscape use single files)... back them up as well, onto floppies even, because generally, they are NOT "huge" data...

Years ago, before browsers had import/export abilities for favs-bookmarks, I built in an export/import section into my "APK Tools" & did it that way, but nowadays, ALL browsers (the "Big 3" in Opera, FireFox/Netscape, & IE) can import/export well between each other... a good idea in & of itself... apk

Bookmarks missing after installing Firefox 2

Quite a number of people are reporting that after installing Firefox 2 their bookmarks are missing. This is a different issue and much easier to fix than the usual crash issue. The bookmarks are also NOT lost. In some cases the installer isn’t exiting existing Firefox processes properly and not updating some of the old files. This causes several odd issues including tabs not working properly, and for bookmarks to not show up. A bug has been filed, a permanent fix will be available ASAP. Bug 357922

The fix

There are two ways to fix this:
* Uninstall Firefox, delete the install folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\ by default) and install Firefox 2 again. Everything will be back to normal, including the bookmarks. This will not cause any loss of any other personal data. That data along with bookmarks are kept in the profile folder in Application Data.

* Install Firefox again using the custom install option and chose to install it to a new folder. Again, no loss of personal data as this installation will still detect and use your existing profiles.

Everyone has reported both of this fixes clear the issue right up and that no other issues are encountered.
