Fix for New GPU in old Windows 7 machine failing on second boot up

Hi Folks,

I'm creating an account and this post to share this news in case anyone else comes across the same problem with installing a new GPU on a Windows 7 based pc. I searched the internet with no solution and it took a buddy of mine to figure out the solution for my problem.

The long story is that I have a 10yr old computer, upgraded my graphics card to a refurbished AMD RX480, and upgraded little else. I properly uninstalled my previous GPU drivers, restarted my computer and installed my latest drivers for the 480. On first restart, the computer would turn on fine with the driver successfully installed and windows would tell me on startup that the hardware changed and it needs to be restarted (no forced restart required), but I could play any games the computer was capable of after this first restart. On second restart/boot-up I would watch the windows screen freeze when the red of the windows logo would appear (boot-up freezing on running the AMD drivers), and would then follow the recovery process for backing up to right before I installed the new drivers.

The solution my buddy found that I'm documenting here in this thread is a service in the registry that is default disabled in Windows 7, but is default enabled in Windows 10. Here is a link to the page he found for the fix and my computer now works without a problem with booting up and running all my games:

The solution requires going into your registry and editing one thing following this path:
open command > search and open "regedit" > Select HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > CurrentControlSet > Control > Windows > In DWORD: NoInteractiveServices change value “1” to “0”

I know this isn't a fix that will work for everyone. I may even be the only person with this issue that has this fix for someone in my situation, but if you are encountering the same problem as me, hopefully this helps you out. Please remember that messing with your registry is dangerous and altering it must be done at your own risk. ;-)

Thanks,

What are your system specs?

Give me white sticker pics from card back or side of card heatsink.

Even a GPU-Z screenshot please.

I need the screenshot from gpu-Z still
