Well,a friend of mine, got an old windows XP computer and got some massive virus by using limewire..and she wants to get it fixed so she can go on internet again,i told her a simple window XP disc format should fix it but i want to know what you guys think?? she tells me her mum tried everything like reveamp?? no idea what that is and some other stuff..but i think booting up the XP disc after turning the comp on and boot disc from their should solve the problems, any sugguestions?

i would do a complete Format and start fresh
make sure you save what ever you need first pics and files
make an MP3 cd from itunes and you can use that to recover your music

as for drivers and stuff you would have to go to the mfr website and dl all the updates for the components

how do you do complete clean format?? just put the disc in and choose format?

I would say her mum is to blame, and not limewire. :p Googling reveamp, I'm not sure why she put some 1910 retro clothes on for, that won't rid the pc of a virus. ^^

What kind of access do you have to this old pc? Are you on site, or giving advice basicly down the phone?

Which XP CD is it? Pre sp1?

It does get complicated. The pc will probably pick something else up whilst updating to the latest MS sp3 unless you have that installed offline.

Stick Windows cd in drive. Hit f8 or f11 for boot menu, or if that doesn't exist hit f2, or del, or f12 to enter the bios and manually set the cd drive with first priority for boot sequence. If the boot menu works simply choose the correct menu option.

yea, when the installation of XP starts, you have an option to reformat... A quick format would be fine. After you install XP, the first thing you need to install all your drivers, then install AVG http://free.avg.com/

To avoid this again in the future, pratice better surfing habbits. Also, remember to complate all windows updates
