So I'm building a system for someone on a tight budget at the moment, but will be going quad core eventually so I figured the Destroyer, and a 5400+ BE will suffice for now, seeing how she's stepping up from a single core 3200+ S939. Well I get it all said and done, install vista, and BLAM! severe underclock! I've already been through the BIOS, and everything is set correctly, C&Q is off, and Windows power option is set to High Performance. In the BIOS, I have it set to run at 3.0GHz and 1GHz memory (250x12). Well, the cpu to ht/nb multi is set to 4x and I can't change it, because its like, non-highlightable. So heres the issue. The system is running at 1Ghz CPU and 250Mhz memory, but the HT link is running at 1Ghz.. Anyone have any ideas? I had this system promised for Saturday night and here it is Sunday morning :(

before i try to help you, i just want to point out the Destroyer is not a budget board, its actually one of the more expensive AM2+ mobos, should've went with 750a/720a if its budget.

Very weird problem, i might say. I dont understand how the CPU can be at 1Ghz, RAM at DDR2-1000 and HTT frequency at 1000Mhz??? I think that it may be a BIOS issue, are u using the latest?? Even if you are a re-flash may be in order, but do it as a last resort.

I worked with a P35 board that auto overclocked itself and i couldnt do jack to change anything in BIOS, i think it was defective but i didnt attempt a reflash.

I also recomend running it at stock first, try that and see if Windows programs read all the speeds right. I hope you didnt install Windows while overclocked.

I always install at stock, but I'm thinking I may have to do the Windows install again. This is a really strange problem. I've never had this happen before.. :( As far as the budget... it's a budget build at this point in time, but she wants to grab a couple 9800GT's or GTX+'s in about a month or so. I must say though, this FOXCONN board confuses me, and I've had FOXCONN boards before. It has more settings than some DFI boards. :O Also this new AM2+ overclocking thing is a little new as well but not too different.

EDIT: Also, the bios is the only one that I can find. It's the one from August 2008, it actually came flashed to the board already.

yea, try reinstalling Windows, see if the problem keeps occuring. What software u use to check CPU, RAM, HTT frequency, is it CPU-z, Everest and so on? Does Foxconn have its own software for the board, what does that tell you?

Also, overclocking the AM2+ should be almost the same as AM2, i never owned an AM2+ so i cant say for sure, perhaps someone can help u with that.

Issue solved. I cleared CMOS for 5 minutes and started it back up and redid the settings, and it works now. Strange.. I was using everest, Windows itself.., cpu-z, and the 2 different programs from FOXCONN. But its all set now, thank you!

cool, i'm glad you this fixed. Clearing CMOS for prolonged periods of time (sometimes overnight) helps in some cases.

Id be willing to bet the multi was set wrong since its a BE.

I had the cpu at 250x12, I checked. Now It's running at 250x13 @ 1.4V. The system is now in the hands of the owner, and it's stable :)

ok so this is weird. a year later, we just upgraded the graphics card and such. and now the board is not allowing me to select a change for any of the multipliers. I'll try a new bios and see if it works..
