Hello Everyone.

I have the hardware you can see on the left from my profile, and for some reason, from nowhere, i'm having performance far from what i was having and i can't find out why and where... Let me explain:

For example, i was having Monster Hunter World about 100+ FPS on the main zone of the game, now i'm having around 70 and when there's a lot of action i have HUGE fps drops to around 50 or lower... Rainbow Six Siege, i was having around 200fps now i'm having around 100/120 and many others...

I haven't changed anything, i've already tried to update BIOS, all drivers, already cleaned and re-installed Nvidia drivers, already runned windows for virus and sfc /scannow, the temperatures are around 70º in full load for both CPU and GPU, i'm out of options...

Do you guys advise me to do something before i format my system to find out why i'm having this perfomance loss?? Test my hardware to be 100% everything is fine?? I really don't know why from one to day to another this started to happen...

Best regards.

I had similar issues a few weeks back. Ended up reinstalling Windows (my usual last resort), but still had the same problem.

Tried re-seating memory and cpu, no change.

Finally I completely tore down my entire PC, made sure everything was dust-free and all looked good.

After reassembly, everything was back to normal.

I don't know why and I'll never know why, lol. Ghost in the machine.

5 Ghz OC still in place? Monitor voltage/freq/thermal on CPU and check if anything's acting weird.

Check your event monitor too, you might think your OC is stable but could be throwing all sorts of errors regardless. And those will handicap performance.

Also check if XMP is still active.

That is weird just like my situation lol. I will try that too just for safety and pray at the same time :D

The OC i have, it's the "turbo" or auto OC from the motherboard that is pulling the CPU to target 5.0ghz. How can i monitor those errors? XMP is active, using 3200mhz like always was... :\

Start playing a game then and check timestamps in event viewer once you notice performance dip or something. Run MSI afterburner and monitor temperatures / frequencies during the gaming session.

Any 9th gen Intel users feel free to step in.

I will check that ASAP. By the way since this situation is starting to drive me crazy and i'm about to format the system, i'm gonna take the chance and going to get a Samsung 970 Evo Plus 500gb, and i don't know wich port i should really connect it... By my motherboard manual wich one is the "best" ? Or they have the same performance? In therms of location of heat, wich one is better?

yeah definitely monitor your temps. your OCD 9700k is going to put out a lotta heat and your airflow might not be able to keep it all cool. The DR3 is a good cooler but its no DRP3 or DRP4 and a second fan does make a difference.

so with your airflow and heavily OCD CPU it could be throttling. - "could be" i said.

Question to the OP. When was the system assembled? What thermal compound did you use for the CPU? The one that came with DR3?

Also, don't add another variable to the equation. Hold off with adding new parts before you ID what's actually wrong with current build.

You could start with restoring factory defaults in BIOS to check how system performs without auto OC.

Already did that because one of the things i did to try to solve the situation was to update my bios and everything got reset during the process... What i'm saying is that it was already in my mind to get 970 Evo Plus, so if i'm going to format the PC i take the chance.

By the way once i changed to 2080 Super, i had to use double PCI cables because this GPU didn't had the 8pin adapter.

Dust/thermal/electron migration

The power cable bit is good, atleast no worry of it not working.

Remember games will have glitches, we are the bug testers now since they rather not pay an average joe money to play the games and report minor and major bugs.

This is my temps and voltages playing Monster Hunter World, the room is hot and my case (Fractal Define S) isn't the best in airflow, but i never had problems before of this kind, this started to happen from one day to another and something must be the culprit here.

On event Logger, there's nothing during the gametime.

probably spectre/meltdown mitigations... try resetting the windows install. Most likely software related.

Get a portable AC unit, dust out your rig.

Yeah you're reaching 79C while playing and your cooler is blasting at full in a case with not so good airflow. Take front panel off and see if temperatures improve.

How many front fans do you have?

What's the temperature outside? Define "hot".

Yeah, i am thinking in formating my system and i want to buy a 970 Evo and use the oportunity to format it :P Do you know the answer for this? https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/fps-drop-performance-drop.258638/post-4105218

I have two front Fans, 1x Silent Wings 2 120MM PWM (back) + 2x Pure Wings 2 140MM (front) .

Can't tell you the temps outside with precision lol

Both ports support m2 PCIE so port wise it doesnt matter for the 970 -- I would put it in the one away from the GFX card (M2_2) for heat reasons (m2 ssd throttle their performance when they get hot.).

I actually have that same SSD in a 1TB flavor. I love it.

Take off the front panel, see if it improves anything.

Also -- could you check your power settings and make sure it is set to "high performance" and try again? Sometimes power settings can cause these drops.

So, i ended up getting a better CPU cooler, just bought Dark Rock Pro 4, Kryonaut Thermal Paste, 970 Evo Plus 500GB and cleaned up my PC from full..

After formating and everything, the perfomance is the same... It's a clean installation, so i really don't understand what's happening here, can't figure out if it's a problem with the GPU or CPU, all i know is that this perfomance loss started from one day to another as i already said :(

Here's my temps and voltages again playing Monster Hunter World:

And yes, Windows is running at High Perfomance in Power Settings... Is it my Graphics Card that can be faulty? It was running so well...

that's so strange.

ok so 1. Can you make sure that Geforce experience didn't enable resolution scale tweaking in game (sometimes it thinks your PC is so good it should enable res scale and your FPS tanks.)

can you also post your ram timings?

It looks like the GPU is maxed so it's not a cpu bottleneck... really odd. Can you revert to an older driver??

last thing to try (if nothing else works):
if that's not it then try :
back up your registry, (to restore later)
go "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management" set FeatureSettingsOverride to 3 (DWORD)
then "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management" set FeatureSettingsOverrideMask to 3 (DWORD)

This will disable spectre and meltdown mitigation - it might make a difference since your CPU has no HT; I would try this last though.

I don't use GeForce Experience, i find it useless and never had needs of having it.

There you go:

130462
130463
130464
130465

About the previous driver, already tried with four different drivers versions, the last 4 released ones actually.

Edit: About that change in registry, i don't even have those files in that locations on the registry.

That's so frustrating man.

Can you post some benchmarks? Maybe a timespy or a Monster Hunter world benchmark?

I mean if you're up for it try cl to 16 and trfc to 416...
