FPS locked at 60

Hello guys , can reinstalling the graphics driver solve my problem ? , i remember hitting 400 FPS in a specific game ( live for speed ) , but now my FPS is locked at 60 in all games , V sync always disabled , can it be something in NVIDIA control panel ?

Some graphic card tools like GPU Tweak or MSI Afterburner also have framerate limiter function. Do you maybe have one of those? I see no reason why framerate would be locked by itself unless you specify it with some sort of frame limiter or V-Sync of some sort.

IDK if that game is like that but I have games that lock to refresh rate (built in vsync) and dont offer the option to disable. To get around this I modify the global or per-game settings in the nvidia CP.

V sync is disabled in both , NVIDIA control panel and games , as i said i used to hit 400 FPS in live for speed , and always higher than 60 in other games.

Yes , my GPU is overclocked with MSI afterburner .

No framerate limiter enabled , deleted it and rivatuner , still locked to 60 FPS.

Not really... just because you set your monitor to 60Hz in that control panel doesn't mean that games should actually be locked to 60Hz without vsync.

He already said he has V-Sync disabled. Unless he's using Fast V-Sync or Adaptive V-Sync, thinking it's not limiting framerate. Fast doesn't, but drops all extra frames where Adaptive does. Refresh by itself has no effect on framerate.

Btw, a lot of "modern" (read: bad console ports) have a hardcoded 60fps limit...

why do you want a higher framerate than your monitors refresh rate? you wont get any benefits unless you need the extra heat and power consumption to keep the house warm.

@27MaD I know you mentioned its disabled in the NCP, but did you set it to global force disable or let 3d app decide?

Reset to defaults, games and nv cp, any other gpu utilities. Turn off any streaming services

run some benchmarks like Unigene Heaven, etc. en look at the FPS
I say this because I have G-Sync on and Monitor at 60hz and V-sync off. and Unigene Valley runts at 90 FPS (onscreen information)

Ok guys , i've solved the problem , downloaded Asus GPU tweaker 2 and looks like it had some left overs (i used it before and deleted it ) , and GPU FPS target was set to 60 , set it to 0 and the FPS is unlocked again.

@RejZoR thanks for reminding me about GPU tweaker.

I have a guess, this could be a leftover from an app that you uninstalled and it made a change for the driver. A good idea is to make sure to revert back any changes from that app before uninstalling it. Reinstall drivers with "Clean installation" setting.

EDIT: Saw your post above. Yep I were right about the leftover thingy.

That's interesting. I thought GPU Tweak had to be active to enforce the limit. Looks like it somehow sets it in NV driver itself. I remember fiddling with it when I had ASUS GTX 980, but it was quite glitchy so I dumped it. But I remember it had FPS limiter so that's what I first thought about. I'm glad you solved it
