Hello everyone, i am happy with my system i have built but i have a problem.

The front microphone jack only gives me static when i plug it in, everything works ok on the rear ports and the frontal headphone port.

How can I solve and troubleshoot whats going on ?

Note: I am sorry if i have opened the thread under wrong section.

What microphone are you using? Does it have a dedicated microphone jack? Or is it a mobile style TRRS jack? If so, are you using a splitter/adapter?

Some front panel sockets are stubbornly difficult to get the jack all the way in. Make really sure you do that. Otherwise you will short out the connection and get said static.

Try a different microphone.

Check the internal connection to the motherboard. Any loose or broken wires? Are the pins on the motherboard header intact?

don't use front panel audio. it's always trash and/or barely functional even in 500€ high end cases.

Which is not a troubleshooting step.

For normal usage it can be more than good enough for many people. Just because you do not use it, does not mean it is universally bad. Full disclosure, I do not use it either. But not because it is always trash.

I have built numerous computers where the owners use the front panel in-/output with no issues what so ever. I have also come across cases with horribly noisy front panel audio. Sometimes it have been the motherboard front panel I/O header that was rubbish.

i had a lot of cases and a lot of motherboards.
onboard audio is one thing (even the "highest end" ALC4080 is worse than the cheapest 10 dollar USB Audio DAC.)
Front Panel (especially microphones from a quality headset) barely works if at all.

the solution for this?
buy a sharkoon USB DAC for 30 bucks, a splitter cable and enjoy superb high end audio and microphone quality.
