Since you can not comment under their news I thought it would be nice to express my opinions here.

OK. Lets have a look:

Fermi to be in short supply
Written by Fuad Abazovic

Huge demand

Nvidia partners have ordered Fermi cards even before they ended up with Geforce GTX 480 and Geforce GTX 470 brands and this is just the beginning of the story. Back in October Nvidia has created a huge hype for its 512 shader compute chip and people were ordering these cards like there was no tomorrow.

We talked with quite a few Nvidia partners and it looks like most of them simply won't get enough Fermi cards. Distributors and etail / retail stores have already ordered far more cards that partners can provide.

At launch, Nvidia has much less cards that partners can sell but this might end up to be the case for a few partners, only. Unfortunately, while it's possible that some might end up with enough cards, we highly doubt it.

Note that Fermi cards should show up in etail / retail stores on April 12th, as this date has been confirmed by Nvidia as well as few partners. Our advice to anyone who's after Fermi cards is that you better be ready to buy one as soon as you see it listed.

First of all, it is not huge demand, we call it ^^shortage^^. Cuz when it comes to ATI, they always write shortage instead of hude demand.

Yeah, I am so smart that I am going to buy it as soon as it is listed. Becasue it is the damn fastest single GPU card on the planet with 15 % faster than its competitor ATI. FYI I will ignore the 300W TDP and 95 degrees...

Come on. Everbody knows that you are nothing more than an nVidia affiliated web site! I mean seriously check their news!

P.S. I am NOT an ATI fanboy.

not much demand at tpu

but fudo isn't nvidia biased .. he does need to write stuff that people read, would you read "nvidia is fine, no shortages" ?

Meh, Fudzilla holds no relevance to me. They make nice stories, not news, hence why you see not articles from them in the news section. In reality all etailers have Fermi's listed to be in stock from the 14-16th this month. I don't need a news story to tell me that.

Thanks for sharing cool recep.

The article is just playing around with words. Let's take the OcUK stock (or lack thereof) of the 5970. It's been shipped on pre-order since date of launch. I've never managed to see one in stock.
Is there a shortage? Perhaps. Is there a 'huge demand'? I doubt it...
On the other hand I see plenty of stock around for the 5870. Not because there isn't a demand but probably being a more mainstream hi-end card the retailer decides that stocking is worth the risk. Whereas for the 5970, if a year passes and they drop in price or a better card comes out, what would the retailer do with 500 or 1000 such cards in their warehouse?

I'm ready to bet I'll be updating this thread 2 or 3 months from now, posting that it's the same with Fermi, as far as the GTX480 is concerned at least.

w1zzards name is in red which means he MUST be paid by ATI whearas Dan, his alter ego's name is in green which means he is on the payroll for nvidia. Also pay attention to the fact that he's been accused of being influenced by nvidia because of his fermi review.

I'm going to get a vanilla GTX470 after about a month, assuming they drop a little in price, just because I don't want to lose 3Dvision native support from Nvidia. I'd like to have Dx11 support for Dirt2 & BFBC2. Then when the 475/485 come out and are better in performance & power consumption (hopefully), maybe I'll make the proper upgrade.

As of now, nearly all my games play at 60fps at 1080p on DX9 or DX10, so I don't really need that much more horsepower.

It was joke. He's not going anywhere but back into that gaming chair to continue his reviews

We have 3 sites which are intertwined in away all thanks to Mike Magee!
Mike Magee (born 7 December 1949–) is a British journalist. He co-founded The Register in 1994, which he left in 2001 to found another well known technology news website, The Inquirer. He is credited with introducing a tabloid-style approach to the coverage of technology news.
From Mike Magee (The Inquirer) came Fuad Abazovic (Fudzilla) and Charlie Demerjian (SemiAccurate). Now these sites produce great articles based on rumour, fact and speculation. The rest is up to you magination.

This why I have hi regard for all 3 sources.

SemiAccurate:
Tech news site Ubergizmo has criticized a SemiAccurate story which speculated on wheter Apple would ditch nVidia chips calling the news site "half-accurate". SemiAccurate is notoriously anti-nVidia
This obviously not true, nothing wrong with letting people know the truth, they broke the Fermi story and proved it was indead Hot and Power Hungry with design & manufacture problems.

It says it right in your quote about Mike Magee.

Mike Magee (born 7 December 1949–) is a British journalist. He co-founded The Register in 1994, which he left in 2001 to found another well known technology news website, The Inquirer. He is credited with introducing a tabloid-style approach to the coverage of technology news.

That means they are doing things to get ratings, not to spread facts. It's sensationalism, not reporting. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tabloid

Except that Apple did not ditch nVidia. That's not truth, AT ALL.

Rumors do not equal fact or truth. Sure, they get some things right, but even a blind squirrel occasionally finds an acorn.

Do you read The Sun to get your regular news as well?

Can't really get an accurate gauge by this site. I've noticed it's had an ATI slant since I joined (when I came looking for instructions to BIOS flash my X850 Pro to an X850 XT). Nothing wrong with that of course, but I chalked it up to a "birds of a feather" mindset.

Its hard not to like the more likeable company of the two. ATI have failed horribly with their 2xxx cards, they apologised and worked on it, producing 3xxx which is allright and 4xxx which is decent. When 5xxx card was released, it blew the competition away and the pricing excellent (at least for some of them). All this time Nvidia is spending its time repackaging G80 and shoving it to the ( uninformed) customers(or fanboys), so I think it is easy to see who we like better.

I understand all of that, but it still brings into question the impartiality of any poll at this site. I noticed back in 2006 or 2007 (when Nvidia clearly had the upper hand) that more people were active in the ATI subforum. Also, most people (seemed like 2/3) were using ATI cards in a "what graphics card do you use" poll. This was fine by me and I was very appreciative of the ATI knowledgeable people here since it helped me get the most out of my X850 Pro.

The site does have always had a lot of ATI fans and I don't think a poll being on the front page is going to negate that.

You have to understand that ATi do generally make more affordable cards than nVidia. ;)
It is not like we don't own nVidia cards, I still owns a 7300GS and a now bricked 8800GTS 320MB.

Also, it is not like people always go ditch their cards just because the competition have the upper-hand, I was still using an X1950Pro when the G80 was first released.
Many people were wating for the competition to release their product before they decide which way to go, just like many people decided to wait for the GF100 despite a nearly 6 months delay.

The HD 2900XT was also delayed to year 2007 so if you are looking at the 2006~2007 period you kind of see why.
ATi did managed to edge out on nVidia at the later half of the X1k series vs Geforce 7 era, so that also contributed to what you saw.

You also got to remeber that DX10 was not well recieved because it was Windows Vista exclusive.
Most importantly, nVidia have not yet released the G92/G92b which is the true winner all the way to 9800GTX+ aka GTS 250.

Going by the poll with 3,230 voters, it is pretty safe to assume that the 1,689 who voted "Power/Heat/Noise is important, no Fermi for me" are ATI fans, whereas the 95 voters who voted for "Yes, it's the better card" are NVIDIA fans, meaning that the remaining 1,447 voters are either impartial or not complete fan boys for their cards, the numbers also show a definite lean towards ATI by the people who traffic this site.

Also I would like to note:

Fermi vs HD5000: Fan Noise: (IDLE/LOAD)/Temperature: (FurMark: IDLE/LOAD)/Power Consumption: (TDP's from Wiki)(IDLE/AVERAGE/PEAK/MAXIMUM/BLU-RAY)
GTX480 - 30/50 dbA / 57/97 / (TDP 250W) 54/223/257/320/85 W
GTX470 - ---------- / 50/96 / (TDP 215W)
HD5870 - 27/43 dbA / 55/92 / (TDP 188W) 19/122/144/212/40 W
HD5850 - 29/35 dbA / 41/82 / (TDP 151W) 18/92/108/150/38 W
GTX295 - 33/49 dbA / 57/92 / (TDP 289W) 55/181/218/320/82 W Taken from Tom's Hardware & TPU's Fermi Reviews http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gtx-480,2585.html (Temperature)

Small fact that people who buy High-End GPU's should know, you should expect three things, Noise, Heat, and Power. As you can see all of the top end single chip GPU's are loud and produce a large amount of heat, ATI has better power, NVIDIA failed to fix its energy problem, but as you can see the GTX480 that out performs the GTX295 doesn't require a great deal more energy to deliver better performance than the dual chip GPU: 1W IDLE, 42W AVERAGE, 39W PEAK, 0W MAXIMUM, 3W BLU-RAY.

FurMark is generally frowned upon as an unrealistic representation of peak power (a power virus, as AMD’s Dave Baumann puts it). However, it does serve as a theoretical worst-case scenario.

From what I have seen in my little time here TPU is one of the most straight forward " tell you like it is " sites. They don't monkey the numbers and I like that.
