G-SYNC enabled and experiencing screen tearing (compatible freesync monitor)

Hi,

Game: League of Legends, Dota 2, or any other top down games like that.

Monitor: ASUS XG248Q

Latest available Nvidia driver. GTX 1080.

I have enabled Freesync on my monitor, as well as enabled G-SYNC in Nvidia control panel.

Under "Set up G-SYNC" I have attempted using both Enable for full screen mode, and Enable for windowed and full screen mode. Same result with both settings.

I have attempted with Vertical Sync enabled and disabled in Nvidia control panel. Same result. Vertical sync disabled and enabled in the game. Same result.

Recommended settings that I have attempted. Freesync enabled in monitor settings, G-SYNC enabled in Nvidia Control Panel, Vertical Sync set to "on" in Nvidia Control panel. As well as setting maximum framerate to 237, to force fps to never exceed the maximum refresh rate of the monitor.

/league of legends. When panning in the game vertically, there is massive screen tearing. Same as when no G-SYNC or V-Sync is enabled. When only V-SYNC is enabled there is massive screen tearing as well in this game.

There is also screen tearing when panning horizontally. Not as much as when panning vertically.

I have used demo to check if G-SYNC is enabled, and it confirms it is enabled. And when checking my monitor while playing, the refresh rate corresponds with the FPS and changes accordingly in real time.

Have I done something wrong with my settings? In other games, like Bayonetta for example. I am able to distinguish that screen tearing is not present when using G-Sync and or V-sync. But when either or both is off, there is massive screen tearing as it should be with no synchronization technology enabled.

So it seems to be at least, that G-Sync is working in some titles, but not top down titles. Or maybe something is wrong with my settings? Help pls, thanks.

Do you have this setting enabled?

Also try enabling for full screen and windowed mode...

League worked for me at 240hz Gsync on the Samsung G7 but I ended up leaving it off as it added lag and I never really noticed screen tearing with it off...

If it's tearing with Vsync or Gsync makes me think theres maybe a vsync override somewhere (registry/nvidia inspector/control panel vsync settings)?

Yeah, my Nvidia Control Panel settings look exactly like in your picture. Only difference right now is that I'm attempting with "Enable for windowed and full screen mode". Though League of Legends itself is running at full screen mode.

I tried enabling V-Sync inside League of Legends itself. And it reduced the screen tearing significantly. This is with G-Sync enabled, V-Sync set to on in control panel. And now v-sync set to on inside league of legends itself. Though, even now when panning vertically, or horizontally a bit there is a much much thinner and smaller screen tearing. But it is still noticeable to me.

When you enabled G-Sync on your monitor. Was there absolutely 0 screen tearing when moving your camera in any direction? Before turning on V-Sync inside the game, the screen tearing looked exactly the same to me as when no sync technology is turned on. Would it help if I recorded it and uploaded to youtube?

sounds to me that the framerate is going way beyond what your monitor's refresh rate is, lock the framerate to your refresh rate, or 2-3 fps lower to eliminate tearing.

EDIT: alright, just read that you have tried this, what portion of the screen does screen tearing appear?

The screen tearing appears middle/slightly bellow middle. Across the entire screen horizontally. The most regular type of screen tearing I think. Maybe one centimeter in width vertically. And it moves. So if I am panning, it will move vertically but remain the same width.

I enabled V-sync in the in game settings as well, and that produced less screen tearing. But I can still notice a very thin line, in the same/similar position as before. This is with all the g-sync settings enabled, just now with in game setting of v-sync enabled as well at the same time.

Guys, I don't know if you have this problem yet, but if someone that is seeing this post, I recommend you use Gysnc/Free sync + Low latency mode in ultra + Vsync in The Nvidia Painel. This will solve the screen tearing, but it'll increase the latency a little bit. You should test it.

Or buy a proper G-Sync monitor.
