Gateway Introduces Intel Atom N270-equipped LT2000 Netbook

Gateway Inc. today introduces the Gateway LT2000, a new sleek and compact netbook with a 10.1-inch TFT LED-backlit display that will let mobile customers maximize their time on the go to stay connected and productive. At the core of the Gateway netbook line is excellent mobility and wireless communications, so customers can shop online, browse websites, make VOIP calls, and stay in touch with friends and colleagues via email and social networks. The Gateway LT2000 netbook line is powered by Intel Atom processors and can provide easy access to the Internet via Wi-Fi 802.11b/g.

Incredibly portable, the new Gateway LT2000 netbook line measures only about an inch thin and weighs only 2.62 pounds so it is comfortable to hold, easy to transport and fits neatly into a purse or backpack. I suppose the idea for the new ones is battery life. This things faster than my old laptop (sad, i know) but my P3 laptop had a 1-2 hour battery life, and it struggled to watch a DVD movie before going flat.

Oh, LED backlit screens are damned awesome. This would crap all over an older laptop

Somehow I suspect that in 5-6 years, optical storage will be old tech and perhaps not as commonly used as today.

Edit: back on topic, I like the concept of these little laptops but they would be much better for business use if they had more RAM. With HDD encryption and all the other rubbish they run these days, you need more memeory to be able to cope.

I wholeheartedly agree. I'd love to see the day where the complicated mechanically optical mediums are phased out by standards similar to USB/SD. I mean its beginning already, with many DVD players having a SD & USB port.

It's just a gut feeling but like TK said, there are other more compact technologies plus the internet that are just going to get faster and cheaper but Bluray will be somewhat limited by it's mechanical nature.

For an entry level, Id score this one. Sweet looks even.

Heck my HP Compaq NC6400 has almost the same spec.. and Im able to compile my web apps on IBM Wid on this laptop and play Warcraft3 with the GMA950.. only this one is heavier and has a degraded 15 minute battery life. lol

I like this Gateway powered by A64 over the Atom.

The screen is bit bigger but worth it and it is powered by ATI graphics not the crappy intel one. I would pick the A64 one.

and oh even with Vista the 11.6 seems more snappier.
