I've been wondering how much power do GDDR5 chips consume. I've been Googling for around an hour, but I couldn't find anything so far, so I'm hoping you can help me.

How much power could the memory chips on the following graphics cards consume?
GTX 660, GTX 680, GTX 750 Ti, GTX 780, GTX 960, GTX 980, GTX 1050 Ti, GTX 1070

On my RX5700 with 8GB GDDR6, the 8 memory chips consume up to a total of 13W (HWinfo derived number), so I roughly estimate that 4BG of GDDR5 should consume below 10W.

But GDDR6 is much more energy efficient, isn't it?

I am not sure but me thinks that in the stats provided to HWinfo from the GPU sensors might exist one referring to VRAM power. Check it out.

Just saw my RX5700's VRAM consuming ~15W when gaming, so every DDR6 chip consumes close to 2W. With that in mind, GDDR5 should consume closer to 2,5W per memory chip, so a quad-memory chip GPU might consume ~10W at most for VRAM.

Sadly, it could be the case. But my calculations can't be that far from the real numbers me thinks.

Efficiency is one thing, gddr6 runs at a higher clock speed so the power consumption might actually be higher, though it's still more power efficient
