System Name Alienware area 51
Processor Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0GHz
Motherboard nForce 790i Ultra SLI
Cooling Air Cooled
Memory 2GB Patriot EP+ Low Latency DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz
Video Card(s) 1GB Nvidia 9800GX2
Storage 2x250GB SATA Raid 0
Display(s) LG 19" LCD
Audio Device(s) On Board
Power Supply 750Watts Multi-GPU PSU
After only seeing 512mb of ram on my Geforce 9800GX2 under it's properties I installed TechPowerUp GPU-Z 0.1.9. It's also telling me that i only have 512mb of ram and that SLI is disabled. When i look at my devise manager I see only one card (I hear with the 7950 you see 2 here).

I have the latest driver 174.74 and I looking for a SLI setting in the Nvidia control panel under manage 3D then looked all though the control panel with no luck.

Should I be able to see the 9800gx2 as a SLI or no? Also I'm i just not seeing both 512rams but that are working or do i have a problem?

I have a 750watt PSU,
790i Ultra MB
and of course o Geforce 9800GX2.

Any advice would be helpful.

thank you
Mark

Did you install drivers for both GPUs? Since 9800 GX2 is a dual GPU GFX you need to install 2 drivers not just 1. If you only install one then you get half the performance leading to half memory, bandwidth, fill rate , texture, core , memory, shader clocks speeds etc...

enable SLI in the nvidia control panel?

enable SLI in the nvidia control panel?

NO NO NO. The problem is he only has one driver installed as he mention there was only one GeForce 9800 GX2 in device manager meaning only half of the dual GPUs were installed.

There is no place to enable SLI in the control panel.

How do you install a second driver?

Headed to work. I'll get it tomorrow morning. thanks

Updated my System Specs!!

i dont have much knowledge with these cards...if its the drivers not installed for all gpu`s then right click my computer, go to properties then device manager, expand display adapters, right click on them then select update drivers, point it at the nvidia folder corresponding to your latest nv drivers on your system drive.

My GPU temp is running idel at around 50c

I got this off a review at ( http://www.bjorn3d.com/read.php?cID=1251&pageID=4612 )
TEMPS
The temps readings are being taken from RivaTuner 2.08. The temps where taken at idle and then thru the Crysis benchmark.

Temperature Specification

Idle Load
Core 1
65º C 74ºC
Core 2
67ºC 75ºC

From this info I'm almost sure that only one is working.

follow the instructions i gave in my last post....
you should see something like my screenshot(but with nv hardware)
try properties after right clicking the display device
check that an nv signed driver is installed for all graphics hardware(not the microsoft driver)

In Device Manager I only see one card showing. I have the latest driver in that device.

Let me try and get a screen shot.

Hey sorry for being so late. This is how you do it.
1. Uninstall Video Drivers
2. Shut Down
3. Pull Card Out and Put Back In
4. Go to Device Manager and install drivers
5. Reboot (DON"T PULL CARD OUT)
6. Go to Device Manager and see if it detects it, if yes install drivers(the second one!!!).
7. Now reboot again and go to device manager. Do you see 2 nvidia 9800 GX2 drivers?
8. If yes go to GPU-Z and.....

Talked to Nvidia support and after reseating the card they told me if it's not showing 2 cards in the device manager then more then likely its a bad card. I have my RMA and sent it back this morning.

:UPDATE:

I just put in the new 9800GX2 and it now shows 2 cards in device manager and the card temp is idel at 60c (like most of the reviews i read). GPU-Z says SLI enabled now. Mark06 went up over 3000 points. So all is good. Thanks and I hope this info will help others.

Good Journey
