hi im just about to embark on a new pc, needed mostly for photoshop, illustrator, 3D max etc but some games... i'm set on getting a shuttle [for looks, i admit], probably with 300gb maxtor SATA drive, AMD 3700 and 1GB of Corsair RAM [all from ebuyer]

just wondered if anyone can reccommend the best graphics card to go with this... i've been deciding between the Sapphire X800 GTO2, the ASUS X800XT or the Connect3d X800 GTO... don't wanna spend too much over £150... and the shuttle will only take a single slot PCI-e card so no X850XT s will fit, apart for the uniwise but its £240....

hope someone might have some views on this... thanks!!

I'd go with the Sap GTO2.

That seems to be the best card for the $$$ due to it being able to unlock to an x850XTPE.

New ones dont unlock

6800GT are a lot cheaper now, and they'll easily overclock to 6800 Ultra Speeds

Are you sure that sapphire x800gto2 won't unlock.

I think its only gto model which unlock change is 99%
gto2 model is made for unlocking & overclocking.

New Connect 3d x800gto models don't unlock anymore.

ah too bad about needing to slots, cos i brought a 850xt £155 thats including delveriy costs from overclockers.co.uk

only one cheapo card to buy at the moment from OC/UK and its the powercolour radion x800 gto16.. emphasis on the 16..

its pretty much a single slot X850 XT PE right out of the box for £130..

If I remember correctly, the Powercolor x800 GTO16 uses a R430 core (x800xl) and I doubt that the core would go to x850XT-PE speeds, but does anybody know if that is compensated by 1.6ns memory chips?

read the advert it specifically states a 480 core the same as used in the X850 XT PE.. quite clearly u didnt follow the link..

these things are clear out the old stock of boards that didnt get sold as the real X850 XT PE.. there does seem to be tons of the things.. i think most of em didnt quite make the grade or they were deliberately taken of the market so as to not knock sales of the x1800 bottom end cards.. they will have the same memory as the original cards.. they are not being specially made.. just old stuff being cleared out..

it also seems the powercolour 430 chip idea was in fact wrong.. its was just a bios thing.. they show up as 480 chips when flashed with another bios..

the interesting thing is they are now openly stating 16 in big figures on the box.. quite clearly aimed at those in the know..

trog

ps.. the x1600 card which sells in the same price range as these is pretty much of a dead duck i think..
