Get past log in with no input device. (fixed)

Ok so this is an old Dell Pentium D E510 With XP

Guy dropped it off for not posting. I got it to post now but can;t put in the password.
Can't input the password, mouse and keyboard do not work out of bios
It can't load proper drivers for input device until it boots. can't boot until I enter password

How can i get this thing to load windows ??? admin with no keyboard?

Normally I would use a PS2 keyboard. But Dell did not put one on this PC. Facepalm

Have you tried all USB ports? Maybe it'll register the keyboard on a different port...sometimes it wants to re-install USB keyboard drivers if you change port ID's.

You could press F8 during bootup and try to get into Safe Mode with Networking, or Last Known Good Configuration. See if either of those will kick the universal USB keyboard driver...are you using a basic USB keyboard or a full-on media keyboard?

Ill try but its not going to fix the issue. Input devices work fine in the bios just not in windows

Regardless of what? Its a working mouse, and keyboard

I reset the bios to default, still same problem can't input password or switch to admin log in
It need the keyboard he was using i guess

Or format and start over

I just thought there might be a way to load admin account without a keyboard

If it didn't have a password it would boot on its own and fix. How about a DOS hack remove password

Regardless of the keyboard not working when being attached to that system at the login screen, I want to know if the mouse works regardless. Yes or no? Seeing as you never mentioned it...otherwise I probably wouldn't be asking.

You could load up an XP install disc and get into the Recovery Console and try this solution.

You could boot to Hiren's to remove the password...or to access registry and setup an on screen keyboard detailed here and here.

Copy, No the mouse does not work at all. Its an old system so no mouse support in the bios

No mouse, check. It should still work at the login screen unless there's further issues, I've seen many XP systems load the mouse but not the keyboard. Usually indicating a corrupted driver or section of Windows. Many POS system still are on XP and rely primarily on touch-screen input/mouse input to function, so using a Mouse + On-Screen Keyboard could get you going. Though I'd rather just wipe out the password with Hiren's and get into the system first.

At worst if isn't too much of a hassle using what he had connected might help...but to save face and not deal with a client doubting the service he's paying for hopefully we can get this issue resolved and make you the hero that saves the day!

It worked finally. It took me a few tries but I got rid of the password and it booted, now the input devices work
