so im getting my first m2 ssd and im wondering what one i should get??
i want to use it as a C drive to run windows 11 from it
1tb capacity should be enough for it
and im sure its m2? seen some other formats in the past??

Just check that its specifications say M.2 NVMe. M.2 SATA drives do exist as well.

Check the Wikipedia article as well, should give some basic details: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M.2
that M.2 NVMe. M.2 SATA drives kinda makes me confused

lets say i buy a "Hynix Platinum P41 2 TB SSD" i can plug that into my mainboard and it works straight out of the box? no need for drivers to install? getting pci-e type ssd's working was a pain in the ass for me

Your CPU and motherboard both support PCIe 4.0 (Gen4) M.2 drives. Ideally, you'd want such an SSD as a boot drive. For longevity, I'd try to avoid QLC based ones.

But if you've been happy with SATA SSD performance so far, you should be fine even with a cheap off-brand PCIe 3.0 (Gen3) model.

i can get a SK hynix Platinum P41 1TB for 83 euro. should i go for that??

Yes, and therefore they create LOTS of waste in the process.....

All of my WD drive purchases in late '24 came in a package that was barely bigger than the drive itself, with just enough room for a bit of cushioning all around, and stuffed into a padded envelope marked "Do Not Bend", just like the batches of DDR I ordered around the same time :D

Okay im installing the device on the main board and i found out that it got a heat sink and the ssd is shorter than the heat sink do i need to screw the ssd to the mainboard or is the heatsink enough to keep it in place??

Funny tighten the ssd to mainboard the heatsink cant make contact with the ssd

so i figured out that part. now the next one.. the device is found in the bios part but not by windows harddisk manager..

right.. fixed that to... turn nvme raid option on :/
