Hi
I'm trying to build a system with the following components for upgrading the home 2016 windows essentials server .
  • gigabyte b450m ds3h wifi MB
  • AMD Ryzen 3600 (got it as a combo from microcenter for $130)
  • EVGA 220-G5-0650-X1 Super Nova 650 G5
  • Thermalright Silver Soul 135
  • As for the video card, I have an old Sapphire ATI 4550. I think it will do for my needs.
I'm debating on memory
F4-3200C16D-16GVRB
Ripjaws V
DDR4-3200 CL16-18-18-38 1.35V
16GB (2x8GB)
vs
F4-2400C17D-16GIS
Aegis DDR4
DDR4-2400 CL17-17-17-39 1.20V
16GB (2x8GB)

I will not do any overclocking. Both memory similar prices. Ripjaws is XMP compatible but I have heard AMD may not play nice with an XMP profile. Without XMP the Ripjaws runs at 2133 speed( default speed).

This is 2nd attempt. 1st combo had some stability issues. It would reboot and BSOD randomly even when idling. I was not sure if it was MB or CPU or something else. I started with Aegis but it wasn't on the gigabyte memory approved list for some reason so to rule out memory incompatibility I replaced it with Ripjaws as it was a reasonable price difference and was on the list. After running Prime95, I got some fatal errors after 29 minutes into it. Then finally come would not post at all. The CPU and case fans would ramp up and down with no BIOS screen.

So the questions are:
  1. Should stay with Ripjaws V or go back to Aegis?
  2. Should enable XMP on this combo?
  3. Anything else I need to watch out for in my setup?
Any other suggestions would be much appreciated.

If it was me, would try XMP profiles with the Ripjaws V. Check the RAM voltage if any issues, might need to up a notch or two, but usually 1.35V should work.
Probaly the Aegis will also run 3200Mhz with XMP, not sure about the voltage though, perhaps nedd up it with them.
