Hello,

I have 3 days trying to solve this problem. I want to clone my actual windows 7 with all the programs to the new laptop.

I bought the ASUS GL703VD-GC028T, cleaned the new HDD with DISKPART before cloning, cloned both partition of "Reserved for system" and C.
It loaded the system, but when I arrive to the log in page, the keyboard and mouse doesn't works. Also when I load on recovery mode and safe modes doesn't work.
Then I saw on internet that have to do the SYSPREP before cloning the disk, so that it's like the first time when the windows7 load on the new machine and so will automatically install the needed drivers for the new machine.

To do so, I connected the new cloned HDD to the old laptop, made the SYSPREP and shutdown. I then connected to the new laptop and the system started first the CHKDSK, then "Setup is updating registry settings","Setup is starting services","Setup is installing devices", and then showed me the window to select language and keyboard layout.

At this point, the keyboard and mouse doesn't work, neither USB ports. The same as before.

I tried also the System File Checker and changing the partition letters from REGEDIT that suggents on this post (https://superuser.com/questions/212759/cloned-windows-7-keyboard-doesnt-work) without success.

I then loaded the installation ISO of Windows 7 to an USB drive, and when load the installation, the keyboard and mouse doesn't works. Neither externally.

I tried with other 3 ISO versions, and with a modified one, works only the keyboard. I don't want to install windows from zero, so this thing don't know if it's really useful.

When I try with the installation of Windows 10 on the USB drive, the keyboard and mouse works!

I have been to 2 repair shops, but neither them know how to solve the problem.

If it's a problem of drivers, how can I install the drivers if when the windows7 is loaded, I cannot use keyboard, mouse or USB ports?
There is an other way?

I really don't understand what's the problem and how to solve it.

Don't tell me that it's not possible to install Windows 7 on this model because it's not supported, because not supported doesn't mean cannot install it and I saw other people installed Win7 on similar models, so it's not this the reason. (http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...r-intel-skylake-and-kaby-lake-laptops.803630/)

Do you have any idea? Thanks

My BIOS configuration:
- Launch PXE OpROM policy: Enabled
- Launch CSM: Enabled
- Legacy USB Support: Enabled
- Secure Boot Control: Disabled.
- SATA mode Selection: AHCI
- I have the latest BIOS version installed

My specs:
Intel Core i7-7700HQ
Chipset: Intel HM175 (Skylake PCH-H)
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050

Similar does not mean the same. You need to check to make sure there are W7 drivers for that exact (not similar) hardware.

Also, what kind of license is your W7? If OEM/System Builders (as the vast majority are) you cannot "legally" transfer that license to a new computer under any circumstance. And note those are terms of the license agreement you already agreed to abide by when you first used that license. That makes it a legally binding agreement.

sounds like a driver incompatibility, not sure you'll be able to use windows 7 on this machine, as its incompatible, which is why it worked on 10.

EDIT: looked at the asus website, and they do not list any windows 7 drivers for your laptop.

Windows 7 does not support the needed driver architecture for Kaby Lake, both microsoft and intel stated that repeatedly
there are ways to make them work but I am not going to detail those here
get with the program and install windows 10 like everybody else

So windows 7 it's supported on the chipset driver.

About the "legally", I don't get scared by that.

From your link, following the chipset install (because you know the managmeent interface has nothing to do with it right? Good.)

Note: The Intel Chipset Device Software does not install drivers for AGP or USB. Do not download this utility if your device manufacturer is recommending it to correct an "AGP driver," "AGP GART," or "USB driver" issue; it will not correct your issue.

Chipset drivers install "drivers" for specific functions of the chipset, generally these drivers are non HID, they do not provide GUIS etc. They are generally for inter HW communication. Otherwise the Chipset driver exposes interfaces that can be used by other drivers (USB,Ethernet,Audio etc) the chipset driver only exposes the interface. It is upto your manufacturer to provide a driver that can utilize that interface for any given OS.

Why you replied to this topic if you are not going to detail it here? I didn't open the question to tell me if I have to install win10 "like everybody else".

because windows 7 goes EOL next year and there is no good reason to run windows 7 on that hardware whatever you think of 10 you are wrong and I refuse to help people stay on old broke unsupported os's it makes my job more difficult
and finally the only way you are gonna fix this is a complete reinstall anyway so you might as well upgrade to win10(its still free if you know what you are doing)

I didn't understand what you want to say

Stop spamming here your frustration.

Stop spamming here your frustration.
I could say the same thing to you
its not meant to work its not going to work without making a custom os image, unsupported os on unsupported hardware is unsupported

get with the program or alt+f4 pick one

In January of this year, Microsoft officials announced they would cut off extended support for Windows 7 and 8.1 on Skylake on July 2017. In March, Microsoft modified the extended support cut-off date to July 2018, noting that all "critical" updates would be supported through 2020 (for Windows 7) and 2023 (for 8.1).

For those that say that cannot install Windows 7 on Intel 7h generation CPU Kaby Lake, just search on a search engine "install windows 7 Kaby Lake" and will find thousands of forum discussions about people that have done this.

And yet

- You have only reinstalled for testing and mentioned the "Clone" as the OS you would like to use.

- Still have not understood that just because it can be done on similar platforms doesn't mean it can be done on YOUR configuration.

Your certainly a tough nut to crack. My reccomendation.

- Google search for what you want to do.

- Find a guide.

- Try it.

If you had, you might find one for your laptop. You might have even found this.

Literally from your manufacturer that provides clues and solutions to similar problems. You will find in any forum that some will straight disagree with you, you will find some forums were people will attempt to assist even the most impossible of tasks. However the General community of atleast TPU (and I for one side with them) is that it is infuriating to attempt assistance with someone that does not put fourth the effort to do some digging themselves.

Some are professionals in the field, Some are hobbiests, Programmers.

none of us get paid by TPU. All of us do this on our free time.

put your back into it.

Did you read my main post before writing this?

-I searched for days for a solution on internet and tried many suggestions but no one worked. That's why I posted the question here.
-The solution that you suggested if for USB keyboard and mouses, not for integrated keyboard and mouses like in a laptop.
-And if you don't know any solution or suggestion, just don't reply! You just obstruct the discussion with your non-sense affirmations.

and yet you barely touched on what you managed to try in 3 days.

of course its for USB keyboards have you looked at the device manager when you had windows 10 installed under Human interface Devices? Do you know that internally the interface of a built in peripherals are generally PS/2 or USB?

The solution is you need to try harder, but its clear you do not grasp the fundamentals of hardware to come to this solution by yourself. Additionally since you do not appear to understand the fundamental nature of hardware or specifically mobile components you have been reduced to rejecting ideas and corrections given by members of this forum.

OP you asked for help, people chimed in/tried to help and you started being confrontational:wtf:

Until you learn how to be civil and appreciative-please do not post again. Closing up shop
