Sony finally brought God of War to the PC platform, with 21:9 ultrawide support, uncapped FPS, and additional graphics options. We took this GOTY contender for a spin on 28 contemporary graphics cards at three resolutions and took a look at VRAM requirements.

Took me much longer than expected to get this posted up. First a week of holidays, then various GPU launches from AMD and NVIDIA

For the PC version, Sony added support for ultra-wide 21:9, unlimited FPS rates, AMD FSR, and NVIDIA DLSS, and various rendering details have been optimized.
And what about FOV adjustment?

It's purely DX11 game and that's where the performance difference comes from imo. Not sure where the DX12 that the review keeps mentioning comes from ?

And what about FOV adjustment?
It's a 3rd person game. Fair point though, there's some 1st person aiming mechanics. Didn't notice any issues with FOV and I'm very sensitive to that

Not true, You don't need 5700 xt or 6600xt to play at full hd... I play on 34" ultrawide 3440x1440p with 6600xt, fsr off, original settings well above 60 fps..in all scenes.
If You turn on scaling the results are way better. And I'm on 1.0.1 version... later should have even higher fps somewhat..

So, liberal use of QTEs and borderless fullscreen for added latency. Nice.

6800 xt is still the best bang for buck at 649 msrp, restocked every thursday on amd.com direct

crossing my fingers for tomorrow! going to try to get one! :rockout:

Or you can just buy the original console and play on that. With money to spare.

if you harness right the power of MPT,6800 65+ fps at 4k ultra+ graphics

for FOV adjustment you need this tool "Flawless Widescreen" very easy to use

does ps4 allow mouse/keyboarding gaming for god of war? i tried playing it once with a ps4 controller, and the aiming was horrible... axe throwing with a mouse is much much nicer

I can't figure out game controllers either. But the option is still there.

The problem with really well-optimized games is that the optimization locks the FOV to a static max, so you get bugs/issues when forcing the FOV outside the optimized range. For a proper PC port, any game/rendering triggers depending on FOV need to also be sensitive to FOV changes, hence my initial point.

+1
I have 1070 play on high 4k 80% resolution 60fps.

> What is noteworthy is that due VRAM requirements, cards with 4 GB aren't doing so well. Especially the Radeon RX 5500 XT, and RX 6500 XT to a slightly lesser extent, take serious hits in performance, even at 1080p. As soon as you have 6 GB VRAM, performance is fine, though, even at 4K. While the game allocates almost 8 GB VRAM at 4K, it seems not all these assets are constantly used, so performance isn't affected in a significant way—the GTX 1070 8 GB vs. GTX 1660 Ti 6 GB matchup is a good way to keep an eye on that. Of course, there are plenty of settings to adjust if you feel you want to reduce VRAM pressure a little bit.

I mean....

It's established that this game uses 6GB. Given that there are quite a few cards being sold or out there in PCs, wouldn't it make sense to run tests on 'High'?

Like, the 6500 XT is faster than the RX 580 as a card, but here the 580 GB comes out 50% ahead. Therefore you'd just run this at High or whatever, if you had a 4GB card, because in the case that you actually own a 4GB card, then it would be foolish to try and fit 6GB of textures into it.

Or you can just buy the original console and play on that. With money to spare.
Not really comparable:

  • There are four quality presets: "Low", "Original," "High," and "Ultra."
  • "Original" uses the same settings as the title on the PS4 (2018)
In other words, the original console runs at 1080p 30fps, on 'medium'.

The 6800 xt gives you 60fps at 4k 'ultra'.

Thats weird... tried to emulate your settings, my 6900xt on Linux have a higher fps.

Glad you guys used patch 1.04 for this as it fixed the vram memory leak. After extended play sessions on previous versions It would use all 16GB of vram on my gpu.
They finally incorported the DLSS sharpness slider now they just need to include the FOV one, less of an issue on ultrawide but I know lots of people are requesting it.

And almost forgot still requests for a real full screen mode and not borderless.

I can't figure out game controllers either. But the option is still there.
I play this game with an Xbox PC controller but do switch to the mouse and keyboard when I need to do some precise axe aiming for puzzles.

Indoors or outdoor areas?
outdoor.

gonna check out again since the area I was was not same as yours as been playing for quite some time now..

But when I tried earlier, on fight scene, min fps is 95 and after that, while exploring is showing 120-130 fps..

one question, during your test, motion blur is disable or maxed out? the above fps is maxed out blur.

I think I have it disabled, shouldn't make any difference though. Motion blur is very light

ok. forgot to mention that im playing on 1440p plus got a 3900xt. So technically you should have better fps.

better late than never i guess.

This is one of very few games that is giving me motion sickness, can't play it for more than 40 minutes before feeling sick. Would love "native" a FOV slider in this game, as I'm not a big fan of modding my games to play them.

On the one hand, I'm happy that Sony finally ported an "exclusive" to the PC. (And that the port doesn't actually suck!)

On the other hand, J Jonah Jameson is right. BRING ME SPIDER-MAN!
