GPU at 100% load while fan is at 50%?

Hi, while I play games GPU-Z says that my GPU (GTX 660) is at 97-98% load, heating up to 80 C , but the fan is only at 50%.

I know that 80 C is considered normal temperature for Nvidia cards, but I would still like to lower it a little, considering there is so much room for fan speed.

So, what is the best way to customize fan profile nowadays? I used RivaTuner many years ago, but I have no idea what is a good solution for today, things change so quickly.

They all work basically the same way, grab whatever floats your boat and set a custom fan profile.

Well, err, latest version of RivaTuner is dated at 2009, which is not something you would want to use in 2015, I guess....

Is EVGA PrecisionX good n' reliable?

I personally use MSI Afterburner and you can set either a fan curve of your choice or just a set manual speed. I tend to set 50% whilst gaming and never go over 62c, still keeping the card pretty damn quiet.

Precision X is fine. I just use whatever software is provided by the manufacturer. My last card was an EVGA so I used Precision X. Now I have an MSI so I use Afterburner.

If you increase the GPU's fan speed the computer might become overly noisy when gaming.

80c @ 100% GPU load seems decent.

Okay, thanks for the reply guys. I found utility from my vendor, Palit ThunderMaster, but it doesn't seem popular, so I guess I'll go with EVGA Precision instead.

Thanks again for the tips

just :shadedshu:

my current gigabyte GTx 760 maximun temp is 72, on a hot day, max fan sped 70%... also its using Arctic Crap 5, also another importatant fact, i did a rice grain method on GPU Die, spread a little over cooler surface, no curing time noticed on this repaste, my temps have been pretty stable, and also a week ago i noticed that they went 5C* down on iddle and almost 8 on load,

so I guess I'll go with EVGA Precision instead.

I use Gigabyte's OC Guru II for tunning my card, but EVGa precision X is pretty good!

Your GPU is 72c @ 70% fan. The OP's is 80c @ 50% fan. The OP's temperature seems better than yours relative to the fan speed.

80c load is normal for a GPU. They can run an excess of 100c without issue.

Also consider other variables, not all GPUs output the same heat, some cases have more ventilations than others etc.

Correct, but my card uses 70% off fan at stock settings, when i set up OC guru i use to set fan curve over 80% also my card goes over 60C at hot days, i live in Pretty hot place,
at stock settings when im gaming at night my card seldom goes over 65c, fan speed @60% max,

Afterburner and Precision X are the same program, just different skins. Both are written by the same author - Unwinder - who, coincidentally was the developer of RivaTuner. Both Afterburner and Precision X use RivaTuner's base code.

Both pieces of software will work equally well for any card on the market; they're not specific to any one vendor.
