I just built 3 new desktops for some person.

The drivers for the gpu doesnt seem to want to install. Every other programs installs just fine. But I do seem to have some issues with Intel extreme utility. When I do a cpu stress test it will fail to start.
The computers turns on just fine, windows 10 pro installed. I get a signal from the monitor to show up.

tl:dr--the gpu drivers doesnt install, need help.

Discrete or integrated gpu?

What make/model CPU? Whats the board?

I tried with a Gigabyte 1080ti, i dont know the model of the 1080ti, I then put in a MSI armor 1080ti, still same issues.
The cpu is a intel 7980xe, I tried with 2 different mobo, the MSI x299 raider and MSI x299 sli plus.

I already built 2 other desktops with the same specs and those work without any issues. I changed the SSD from a 1tb to 2tb model and same issues, the gpu drivers wont install.

Back to basics, which you have probably already checked.
Have you reset the CMOS, is the power connected to the cards etc?

Have you tried a clean install when using the installer?

I cant even get to that stage. The install process just doesnt start.

Both 8 pins are connected that I know of, I will have to do the basic steps.

What I find very weird is that the stress test for the Intel extreme utility doesnt even start. It says it failed to start. I have never seen that before with any laptop or desktop.

Do you have the intel me and other intel software installed? If I recall correctly Ive run into failed starts with this intel utility before, it was due to missing Intel drivers

I know it's pretty stupid, but I've used the app software that comes with the motherboard. You can run it and it checks for any required drivers ,and you can select which ones you want. I'd recommend running whatever version of that your motherboard has

I dont care that the intel software wont start to stress test the cpu but I much rather have the gpu drivers installed.

Damaged or Missing WMI Service Prevents NVIDIA Driver
Installation
Issue

“Install failed” or “Install Failed, could not find compatible graphics hardware” message
may appear during installation, even if the system has a compatible graphics card. This
can occur when installing the NVIDIA driver or GeForce Experience software.
Cause
This issue could be the result of a corrupt WMI service on your system. The NVIDIA
Installer requires the WMI service to properly install the driver or other NVIDIA
software.
Resolution
You must repair the WMI service on your system in order to successfully install NVIDIA
drivers. A future driver release will alert the user during installation that there is a
problem with the WMI service on the system.

For brand new install for me it's always been like this, operating system, ethernet driver, Windows updates, latest chipset drivers, then graphics driver and then sound driver. That is how I install everything

if windows 10 are you sure its not trying to block them so it can do what it wants ? or if 10 did you try to just let it install the NVidia driver to se if there a go or still fail ?

where did you get the drivers from ? maybe if off the cards support disk you got a bad disk or corrupted .

get your driver here and maybe grab some older ones form a few months back to test as well

http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

just to add in the motherboard bios is the graphics set to auto or did you set it by accident to onboard only and its not even trying to detect the cards in use ? [duaaa never mind x99]

heres a thing with out drivers the card run in the same way as safe mode that's a fail safe low power stat to insure a display [like your getting ]

when the driver that kickes in the cards full power states and full features now if you got a power issue to the card that will reject any driver install for the card cause it cant do it full power states .

now do these card work in another computer fine ? if so move on to something like bad psu or something is not pluggen all the way or correctly [easy with a new build to do or miss ] board shorting on the case or something as to that ? bent pins when you installed the CPU [ you see a lot on that with intel if not careful ] . and so on,, I see where guys smashed the 8 pin cpu in to the 8 pin gpu ???? for example

Cards are new? Never flashed? Mined with?

Cards are new? Never flashed? Mined with?
The 3 cards where mined with but the other 2 are working just fine, everything installed like normal.
I changed the orginal 1080ti with another 1080ti, changed the SSD with another model. I still get the same thing. I will try to install the OS with internet connected.

now the real story . USED well worn . just because 2 of 5 work don't mean 5 of 5 will in use parts deals . that's all buyer beware .

'' The 3 cards where mined with but the other 2 are working just fine, everything installed like normal ''

'' changed the orginal 1080ti with another 1080ti''

so you take a working card from a working build you all ready got up and running fine and that ''working '' card still don't work in the build your having issue with ?

if all the cards work in a build you know is working then its a system issue with the one there not like I put above bad pci- slot - not fully / correctly plugged in psu cables ect...

thing is if its not even displaying even to bios splashscreen at the min you should get that even if there is no hard drive and one stick of memory to allow post .

you may just need to start from scratch and bread board it go all the way down to like to insure you did not get any bent pins in the cpu socket and all or the cooler if not stock the backplate is not grounding and what ever involved on that deal . then go to memory and be sure the stick [1] to start is pushed in and fully seated in its slot a good firm click .

then inspect the psu cables be sure there proper and pushed in and seated all the way even in the back of the psu if modular or correct ports [should be goof proof keyed anyway on that ] and so on and try to boot to bios if it work put in case check if the case is grounding it out some how somewhere like a rogue stand off ?

from what you say above sounds like the power regulation of them used mining card may be just spent and done for to what I said about the driver bring the card to there full power states seems like they just cant and reject the driver and stay in low power safe mode / fail safe

good luck

Everything works now, the same was that it wasnt conected to the internet. I didnt have this issue with the other two. Maybe it needed to download some program in the background.

Low quality post by coonbro
never needed internet for anything before , but then you are using the malware service called windows 10 . internet connection required .. thank G0D I don't ever have to stoop to it . I'd have to really hate your guts to even recommend its use . you do as it wants not as you want .

anyway your up and going that what you wanted in the end

enjoy

lol.. low quality post . when the truth hurts , right ?

Try this ....

Win 10 is famous for borking driver installs.

1. Prepare for Windows installation with USB tool or use available media
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/windows-usb-dvd-download-tool

2. Connect boot drive data cable to lowest numbered SATA port .... but don't connect:
-Ethernet cable
-SATA Data Cable for any other drives

3. Install Windows to boot drive

4. Turn off Windows ability to install Hardware drivers
https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials...iver-updates-windows-update-windows-10-a.html
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/82137-drivers-turn-off-automatic-driver-installation.html

5. Install all hardware drivers from original media in boxes. MoBo Drivers 1st. See Item 7 below

6. Connect ethernet cable and run Windows Update till it stops doing anything

7. Install latest drivers for ALL hardware from manufacturers web sites. The reason we didn't do this in step 5 is 3 fold:
-Sometimes MoBo CD comes with licensed utilities with product key embedded and these are not on web site versions
-Its advisable to establish a working out of box conditions
-Sometimes newer drivers require latest Windows Updates

If you have a 2nd drive ....

8. Shut down and connect HD data cable to 2nd lowest numbered SATA port.

9. Boot to BIOS and make sure that SSD is the 1st boot device, if not fix it

10. Boot to Windows
