Hi my grand daughter has a

DELL Inspiron 14 5410 14 2 in 1 Laptop - Intel� Core� i5 256 GB SSD

I want to increase the size of the ssd is the Samsung suitable if not what one will do as the dell is quite pricey. regards Alan

The drive should be compatible, but the challenge will be securing it in place as it doesn't appear that there's a mounting post for the 2280 sized drive (that your Samsung is).

If you can't find an acceptable way to mount it, the other alternative would be to buy a 2230 sized drive.

If that search comes up filtered because I'm linking from the US, just search 2230 nvme on Amazon or your favorite computer parts vendor.

seems the max on that NVMe slot is 2280 the 970 EVO Plus is, iirc, a 2280 M.2 Key M, but i see an arrow for the 2280 and it point just under the CMOS battery, still, it should fit/be compatible

@Super Firm Tofu might be possible with a bit of fiddling

did you

Start the computer while tapping F2 key to enter the BIOS.
Then confirm boot priority - Internal Hard Drive as primary Boot Device/First boot device.
Go to Exit and Exit Saving Changes.
Reboot and use the F12 boot menu option.
Choose UEFI DVD/USB boot option then press the Enter key.
Dell Screen shows for a few moments

or you could also try to clone the original SSD (or transfer the files after formating it, although it would need an ext. M.2 SSD enclosure )

found that searching on "DELL Inspiron 14 5410 14 win 10 install" might be more usefull result tho,

That laptop has the same M.2 mounting system as my G15, as @GreiverBlade pointed out it is very much possible, all you need to do is slide the screw mount out and latch it back on the 2280 position. On my laptop in particular, there is one at either side for two drives total.

Something is wrong with the connection or mount inside the laptop. Windows 10 (even the most ancient builds) should pick up NVMe drives natively. Double check if there's no debris inside the M.2 slot in the laptop, then open the BIOS and see if the drive shows up before trying again. Good luck :toast:

The grand daughter has a tower with a Samsung 970 in so I done a clean install of windows on it and transferred it to the laptop and as you can see it is showing in the bios but will not boot up when I try.

Yeah it will not boot due to either security restrictions or different drivers, but I noticed it says the laptop has RST enabled, try disabling that
