Dear young people,

I was recently asked to build a small powerhouse for a cousin of mine. Budget was ample, so he has some serious oomph to run games with from now on. He's progressing from an AMD A8-7600 APU with 8GB's of RAM and a hybrid disk to an intel 7600, GTX1070, 16GB's and an nvme SSD. Sadly, minecraft wont really show the difference, and I still owe the kid a present, so I'm looking for any age appropriate game that would showcase the amount of graphical power he now has. His parents are fairly strict, and he isn't a really big hero himself, so things like Prey, Dishonered, Crysis and Battlefield are out of the question.

Anyone know a cool game an 11yr old would like and that actually uses an engine written after 2010? No gore, no gibs!

What did he play so far, so that we have a baseline?
I'd suggest Rocket League, Sonic All Star Racing Transformed, Astroneer or Spintires.

Portal 2 comes to mind but its about 6 years old and he may of already played it. Any of the LEGO games but it's not going to challenge the power of that 1070 very much.

Simulation games in general, if he can comprehend them, then there are racing games. Adventure and exploration games (aka walking simulators) may fit the criteria. No Man's Land is kids-friendly and "demanding", The Vanishing of Ethan Carter fits the criteria as well. Modern Puzzlers like The Talos Principle and the Turing Test also work.

There's always the option of modding Minecraft with obscenely large textures and extremely inefficient shaders...

Steam has a bunch of point and click games.

- Trine series & Ori and The Blind Forest, both are platformer.
- EVERSPACE, space pew-pew :D

Dirt Showdown and NeedForSpeed2013

+1 on Trine series. Beautiful game.

Have you thought to ask him what he would possibly like then chose from his shortlist !

The Orangebox. COD. Sonic Adventure DX with the Dreamcast mod (youtube, the definitive way to play Sonic adventure).

Streetfighter has gotten to point of suggestive themes with all the females (Akin to Dead Or Alive).

Sonic Forces/Mania.

Maybe Halo series, Deus Ex.

Like a Ratchet and Clank or Spyro, Banjo Kazooie Game

Spintires, while age appropriate, and sort of fun, is hardly graphically intensive. His system could probably run it @ 200+ FPS 1080p(with ultra settings). I think people are thinking more "kid friendly" and less "killer graphics".

MXGP 1 & 2
MotoGP 2015(or MotoGP 2017 when released in June)
RIDE
Dirt 4(when released in June)
F1 2016
Assetto Corsa

Which all provide the balance of suitable for kids/preteens, requiring a good gaming system to run well(with ultra settings), and very nice graphics(with ultra settings). I'm a racing/driving game freak. So those are mostly all I know.

Need for speed series?

Tomb raider , either one.

How do you mean " strict" ? No killing or no blood or gore? I honestly thought skyrim was not all that bloody or gore filled, and it's a good eye candy game.

what about Farming simulator / truck simulator / bus simulator ?
