graphics card 1 gtx 670 or 2 hd7850s?

Too expensive this looks better for 330 pounds http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-063-HS or you could go for a 7950 and crossfire later http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-148-MS

Yes both of those cards are a good option also. At the end of the day if you have the cash to blow on a 7970 GHz Ed say roughly £350-£400 there is a massive variety of cards out there for that kinda wonga, I hope in the end he\you make the right choice! :)

Actually Kepler in terms of the mhz overclock just as good if not better(Overclocking will always come down to the chip though. Luck of the draw), but the thing is they do not scale as well when overclocked only an increase of 3-4 frames while the 7950/70 scale up to 7-8fps when the same amount of overclock. At this point if you look at reviews at 1600p resultions kepler cards hold their own VERY well and the 2GB memory buffer barely even slows it down.

I get your point but you have to consider the 7970 as a very gimped card clocks wise, AMD released it at 925mhz which is a joke considering most of them reach ATLEAST 1100mhz.

If you are lucky you can get a 1200mhz+ clocking sample. Take a look at the Sapphire 7970 Toxic review to get an idea of what a 1200mhz Tahiti chip can do.

Don't get me wrong, I like Kepler, but I can't get over the fact that Nvidia made all AIB lock the voltage even on custom made models.

I've seen some GTX 680 samples get to 1400 mhz with some voltage tweaking, oh what we could have got :(

My only qualm about getting the radeon is a problem ive experienced with my current hd5750 that being the drivers are crap! even as recently as today ive had to again rollback my drivers to an older version because the just updated drivers for the card are causing bsods its happened many times usually resulting in a bsod with dxgmm1.sys being a culprit, this is a directx 11 associated thing and on researching it has a lot to do with corrupted driver files, so again im using a previous driver version as the most recent one is bugged(2 or 3 times ive had this issue over the life of this pc when amd have updated the drivers for 5750)

so anyone whos been using the hd7950/7970 had any issues with drivers like this? and if so what about the nvidia cards? (ive never owned one) are there drivers usually a bit more stable? dont want to shell out for a card and have to mess with drivers again just to get the damm thing to not crash because like the 5750 the `most recent updates` are usually a buggy joke.

I have not had any problems at all with my 7970 GHz Ed using the 12.8 whql and the 12.7 cap 3's. If anything m8 everything runs damn smooth and better esp BF3 :)

I have the Gigabyte GTX 670 in question and i would choose it over the other two since when the prices go down (more like when people sell their cards dirt cheap when the next generation comes out) its best to buy a second card.

OP clock for clock HD 7950 is 3 - 5% slower than HD 7970. Get the Sapphire HD 7950 Vapor-X cooler and overclock it. HD 7950 (1200 Mhz) would perform in between the Sapphire HD 7970 Toxic stock (1100 Mhz) and Lethal Boost (1200 Mhz) and like a HD 7970 (1150 Mhz)

hardocp tested GTX 670(1.31 Ghz) , HD 7950 (1.2 Ghz) and GTX 660 Ti (1.3 Ghz). HD 7950 (1.2 Ghz) was faster than GTX 670 (1.31 Ghz). In games like Skyrim at 2560 x 1600 8x AA the HD 7950 was 16% faster. Witcher 2 was 10% faster on HD 7950. Batman AC was faster on GTX 670.

Skyrim is much faster according on HD 7900 cards according to techpowerup review at 2560 x 1600.

Get yourself the Sapphire HD 7950 Vapor-X for 260 bucks and get the best value for your money. Are you sure you want to spend 50% more to get 5% extra perf.

comes with a custom HD 7970 PCB with 8 pin and 6 pin power. 8 phase power, high quality Diamond chokes, DUAL BIOS, vapor-x cooler (as used in the HD 7970 TOXIC). this card is built for overclocking. the cooler is quite good at keeping temps and noise low.
