Gsync newb questions

Hey guys. I just set up my new AOC 24G2U monitor with 144Hz refresh rate, freesync and Gsync compatibility. Connected it with DP cable to my RTX 2060 Super and tested on Black Mesa. First time my eyes have seen something over 75Hz refresh rate. WOW! What a difference.

So i enabled gsync in control panel for this monitor. Here are my questions. Do i need to have 144Hz refresh rate set for monitor in order for gsync to work in games? What if i set 60Hz refresh rate? Will it still work? Like, game framerate going from 30-60Hz. Will the game tear? Can i overclock this monitor even beyond 144Hz? Why do i want to overclock it? I'm a PC gamer. I overclock everything. CPU,GPU,RAM,cat....

Gsync works with lower refresh rates. It won't tear. Try it and se........

Not sure if you can OC the monitor. I wouldn't no point.

yes it'll work if you set it for whatever hz
but what is the point

the whole point of gsync is to connect it and never worry about anything again.
high fps,low fps - everything works with no tear and lag

Hi,
Only way to know for yourself is to change to 144hz in nvidia control panel and see :-)

I honestly don't understand how this Gsync shit works. It works in half ot the games, doesn't work in others. I tried Dark Souls III with Vsync off and the game tears like crazy. GTA V also with Vsync off and i get screen tearing. Some games work Ok. Like Subnautica and Black Mesa. I mean GTA V takes control away from the driver. I have game profile set ti refresh rate highes possible. Frame rate limit to 140 and Vsync to off. Setting Vsync to off in NCP should make any game vsync setting irrelevent. But not GTA V. Setting Vsync in the game to on locks the game to 60 fps, even thou my refresh rate is 144Hz and frame rate limit is 140fps. Setting Vsync to off unlocks the framerate but introduces tearing.

But not GTA V. Setting Vsync in the game to on locks the game to 60 fps

Did you set the refresh rate to 144Hz in GTA V?
Do you have the desktop refresh rate at 144Hz?

Some games will drop the refresh rate to whatever Hz you have set for the desktop refresh rate.

Yeap. Figured it out. Didn't realise i have to choose 144Hz in GTA V. Setting highest possible in game profile in NCP should of automatically overwritten game refresh rate setting from what i understood. DS III on the other hand can't work above 60 fps because it breaks the game.

If I was you, Id leave everything in NVCP on auto and change it in game. In the past I ran i to issues like this too many times. In game works best.
