Hi, I've got a problem with GTA 4

with my pc I get 25/30 fps on GTA 4, I had checked the gpu utilization and is pretty low, something like 30/45%

the clocks goes up and down (from 3d settings to 2d settings)

the game is has the latest updates from steam and I'm on the catalyst 14.6b

I don't think I'm cpu limited.

I thought to uninstall and re-install the game but I can't find the save folder for the game

Any help will be appreciate!

thanks a lot guys!

Unfortunately, this is normal with this game. It's an awful console port. You could try the 14.4 WHQL drivers, but I doubt it would help.

I know it's a very bad coded game, but it run better on a HD 6850 :banghead:

I had heard about a problem with gpu with more than 2GB of vram, so I modified the exe to run properly but nothing changed...

I had the same problem with my GTX770M, it has 3GB of vram, I added a commandline.txt file.
When I'm driving I get an average of 45fps but on some streets I get framedrops 15~17fps.
Most settings are on high, and resolution is on 1080p, when I try to change the settings I get a warning for low videomemory, which is not correct.

the same here, I added the commandline in the txt file, before that I can't even set other resolution than 800x600!

shame because I like the game, but it get very very annoying to get 20fps minimum, and lowering the setting don't produce any improvement....

Lets hope that GTA V runs much better... :D

yep also because it has to be simple to port from the next gen console I think, but now I really wanna play GTA 4 ...

i read something a while back about how poorly coded that game was, so your CPU being too fast actually makes it run worse.

googling for it now and cant find it, but what i read way back whenever, was that it was designed for a 3.1GHz clock speed (from the 360, where the port originated) and if you're above or below that speed, the game goes to shit.

I mean... seriously? this sucks! before the 3770 I had the i5 2300 which was.... 3.1GHz  and the game was running fine.... I'll try underclocking the cpu

lemme know if it actually helps, because i cant find anything written about it now.

just set 3.1GHz HT off and....... nothing changed, 20/30fps and gpu utilization of about 30% max 45% :banghead:

in googling the issue all i'm getting is "runs shit on high, runs shit AND looks shit on low"

I just tried some combination for the graphic settings but nothing change. doesn't matter the AA, shadows.... still running like shit.... at least it was dirty cheap, I can't think those how pay big money for this game and the gpu and can't enjoy it!

I had just tried, not much of an improvement, now the gpu stays on 50/60% but there are again tons of frame variances. go from 50fps to 20 in a blink

Yeah it sucks balls...
The weird thing is, some years ago I ran it on windows vista with e7200 cpu and hd4870 gpu , both overclocked and it would run fine, even on gpu stock clocks.
