I have been looking at half life 2 deathmatch on steam because I want to try the mods but does deathmatch really have the source sdk, it says includes source sdk on its page but im not sure

I wish my orange box for 360 had source lo

ya all hl2 games come with source sdk seperately

Wait, it said "includes source SDK" on the page and you don't believe them?

If it says it comes with it I'm pretty sure it does....

the thing is I got it for free with the ati promotion a while back but those don't come with source sdk so I'm just a little wary about it, but if it has the source sdk then it would be the cheapest way to play mods like neo tokyo and zombie panic right, it only costs 5 bucks on steam

Isn't the source SDK the tool used to create maps for source?

What does that have to do with playing mods

The Source SDK is the Software developement Kit for Source based games. It is literally the program given to game developers to make games based on their core system. All Valve games are built on top of Source. This means you could use the SDK to build any entire game from scratch, but most people don't have that kind of time so they load a Valve game like Half-Life in the Source SDK and mod it to be something else.

you need the source sdk to play them also
Source SDK Base can be found on the Tools tab of the Steam client. You must install Source SDK Base before you can run a mod based on it. Note that it will only appear here if you have purchased a Source game such as Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2: Deathmatch, Counter-Strike: Source, etc.

this is why my free version didn't have it
The free version of Half-Life 2: Deathmatch does not unlock Source SDK Base. You will need to purchase one of Valve's other Source-based games in order to get it.

yep i just bought it and source sdk is unlocked now

Oh, ok. That would explain why it was not included. Glad you got it now.
