So I am looking to upgrade my monitor. I have been thinking about going with the Hanns.G HG-281DPB Black-Silver 28" 3ms Widescreen LCD Monitor and i have read mixed reviews. I was wondering if anyone on here has this monitor and can tell me their experiences with it? Or if you guys know another monitor with a similiar price/performance ratio let me know! :toast:

Sorry to make this thread possibly go another way, but why not go with a 24" that supports 1920 x 1200?
Unless you are going to be sitting back a ways, I think a 24" would look better at the higher resolution than
a 28".

Well i thought about that because i realize that the 24" will be more crisp. However, i also use my computer to watch movies on it and i figured the 28" would be a lot better for that as well as gaming. Also, I have a 22" right now and I cannot justify spending the money on the size difference between the two which was why i was looking at the 28" @ 1920*1200

Ah ok. Well, doesn't look like a bad monitor at 28"
Price is pretty reasonable too. But I've never seen one in person.
Hopefully someone else can chime in with a first hand account

I haven't read any professional reviews nor do I have the monitor, but it has over 1500 reviews @ Newegg and 89% of them are 4 or 5 star ratings. To me that really says alot. To have 89% of one thousand five hundred people say it was a satisfactory product is pretty incrediable.. Clearly, there's no coincidence here. There's an established trend. I think that the user feedback really speaks for itself. Looks like a safe buy.

That said, it's easy to recommend something when you're not spending the money. Definitely do your research. ;)

I actually have the same monitor and been using it for several months now. I keep it @ max resolution. The defaults settings are a little bright but once you get it set the way you like it. Then its perfect. I love the monitor and was thinking about buying another one if I could find room on my desk for it. LOL it friggin huge. Best monitor I've ever bought. I also have a 24" Samsung and I think the Hanns-G looks better. Thats my 2 cents worth but everybody has their own opinion of monitors and the way they like them to look. :toast:

I don't know if I would go above 22" or 23", at that point it's not comfortable to scroll across the whole screen without moving your head. Of course that depends on how close you sit to it, but yeah, I wouldn't get a 28" and then have to sit an extra foot away from it.

you don't have to move your head back and forth. I sit about 18" from my monitor and see everything just fine. My res. is set @ max which is 1920 X 1200 and 32bit color. Gaming is excellent on this monitor you can see so much more with it. I use a XFX GTX 285 with a DVI to HDMI cable. My friends come over and see it and droll all over their self with envy wishing they had a big monitor also. If you get a big monitor you will never go back to a small one that's for sure.

My friend has a 28 inch and its fun to play on. I have a 24 and that's plenty big for me. I say go for it!

texbill what kind of games do you play on it? If you play fps do you notice any ghosting or blacklight bleeding in dark areas?

I play L4D and L4D the demo, Crysis, Team fortress 2, HL2, COD. There is no ghosting or blacklight bleeding on mine. I have a friend that has the same monitor and he says he notices some ghosting, but it's not bad He uses an ATI video card 4870X2. The colors are clear and vibrant on mine. I also received mine with no dead or stuck pixels. Some people have seen ghosting on theirs, I have not seen it. The reviews on Newegg tell the story, different people see things that others do not. The good thing about buying on Newegg is you have 30 days to try it out, if you don't like it send it back and get your money refunded. Just tell them something on it doesn't work. I enjoy my monitor and hope it lasts a long time. :rockout:

I have this monitor. I got it on Newegg last year in December. No issues so far after almost twelve months of use now. I have three top of the line 21" professional grade Trinitron CRT's and comparatively speaking color reproduction is not as good as compared to Trinitron tubes (no LCD tech can come close... yet) but if you are not into graphics design or intend to use the monitor for gaming, word processing, browsing and similar tasks then you won't be disappointed.

I have played probably over 200 titles on this screen, ranging from DOS oldies to latest FPS titles and there is absolutely no noticeable ghosting. Light bleeding in dark areas is minimal compared to what is out there at this price at least. The color is fine, again not as good as Trinitron tubes but much better than what I have seen in other LCD's. Viewing angles are decent, with horizontal a bit on the weak side, again nothing new with LCD's of this type at this price range. Since I assume you will use this monitor primarily positioned on the desktop at the eye level, if so then there is nothing to worry about viewing-angle-wise .

Warranty is decent, build quality is decent as well. No weird manufacturing issues, cosmetic or otherwise. I say go for it.

i am a fan of hannsg monitors. i have 3 of them (2x 20" and 1x 22" wide)

depending on the model (lower end), they can wobble a bit. (my solution was to get a better desk that doesnt move when people walk by =P)

i would say that a 28" would be fine. any larger and it can be to much (unless you sit further back)

I currently use 2x 26" monitors, and just by looking at one it fills my entire feild of vision. but then again i sit close to them.

Yea I think i might go to costco or something near me because i heard that they sell these monitors also. So I guess i will have to wait and see.
