Hard Drive going slow making noise

My Hard drive is getting choppy and some times it makes a noise(not to often though) Do you think it's going bad?

I have 489MB of System error memory dump files
It's a WD 500GB Black drive from Q4 2008.

I have been trying to hold off till Star Citizen comes out so I can do a complete computer rebuild, and get a SSD do you think it will last another year?

I have currently backed up all my important files to my Toshiba 250Gb laptop drive, and also to my WD 2TB Black External.
Here is the info on all my drives... I really don't know what any of these numbers mean.

My Main WD 500GB

My backup/Music drive Toshiba 250GB

It looks good!

Some noises are just normal (e.g.: power on, spin up).

And how slow does it get? This can be a problem.

Some times it will completely freeze up then after 1-3sec. it will open the folder or file etc. like it got pegged at 100% load.

Looks like a bad signal. Try to test it with another computer/controller...

And try another cable, both power and data...

thanks for the info, when I get some free time I will check the cables as they are at a tight bend in my case.
For future reference what are some bad numbers to have?

relocated sector count and pending re-allocation are bad.

It could be mechanical subsystem failure. You can try running a long diagnostic on it or "deep scan" and see if you can get your rig to lock up.

Could be malware/viral activity taxing the system, or fragmentation, bad controller/platter/actuator/head on hdd or bad data cable/mobo host controller/driver

easiest is to replace hdd

so this particular noise & the 1sec freezing has never happened before? the freezing is random or... after you did something intense that eats up ram/pagefile/lots of activity like defrag?

AHCI or IDE mode?

Had exactly the same problem, RMA process is underway.

my last hdd has spinning a lot symptoms and suddenly lost from my computer
and i guess your hdd will get worse in short time
i prefer back it up for safety reason

The noise is not very often, but the slight freeze happens a couple times a day, I would say it happens when it's been idle. I've noticed it in the last 2-3 months.
It's in AHCI mode.
I have a scheduled Defrag and disk cleanup every week, do you think the489MB of System error memory dump files is bad?

I've never had this issue before. But from the sounds of it, it's not that big of a problem as I was thinking.

Please, download HDTune and run an error test... And wait some minutes.

Don't choose the fast mode.

Yeah it seems you are having loose connection issues with the SATA power/signal cable. That noise as someone said could be due to the motor spinning down and spinning up again. Disable HDD power management(turn off hard disks after setting). Check the SATA connections. Swap cables. All the best.

Sometimes an antivirus/malware program can tax the system for scheduled scans. Ive heard of indexing occurring when the machine is idle

Sorry for late reply been busy with super bowl party. Well after having my computer turned off for about 2days, all my problems are gone so far... I always just put my computer in sleep mode. I also did a disk cleanup got rid of nearly 1GB of junk.
