I have a problem, sometimes when the machine enters the windows hard drive starts working steadily to the point of slowing down other team's activities and usually takes some time for a return to normalcy, on other occasions the restart the pc led the Hard disk lights as if it were working and the team stays frozen in the welcome screen bios.
if someone can explain to me how to solve this problem
thanks ....:toast:

Sounds to me more like a OS software problem. Run a program like HDTune to make sure. Is a fresh install a consideration or a system restore?

is a fresh install

You could download Speedfan 4.2x(or .3x I don't remember anymore!)...if you have SMART enabled in BIOS, it will do an in-depth analysis of your HDD(s), and could potentially point to an issue.

Is this a new build? first fresh install? What's you're DVD doing when the HDD is going crazy? Are you overclocked? Maybe set your PCI-e manually to 100, maybe there's a stability issue there if it's on auto...because I've learned at least on the Intel system's I'm used to working on, much above 115-120 can even cause an HDD to dissapear off the list until the PCI-e is lowered to an acceptable variable. Not sure what chipset that board is...probably not even intel...which would mean you probably don't have to worry about that...

Is your SATA HDD in IDE or ACHI mode? Neither should really cause this issue...but doesn't hurt to ask. When first booting into Vista, your HDD will be busy for a few working on the Superfetch and getting your OS ready...it does take a while...I haven't found any severe issues like what you describe...but I usually give my windows at least 15 seconds after hitting Desktop just to ensure I have no issues or slow-downs.

Also what do you mean my "team"? Not familiar with that term for HDD's, or rigs really...

yes this is a new build and is a fresh install to, an yes my system is overcloked to 3.8GHZ using the IA Overclock the chipset is a 780 sli and the hardrive is sata 3.0, yeah when the system booting before into vista showme the logo of asus in that moment is frozen and the led of the hard disk is red i whait for more than 1 minute and nothing happens i have to turn off the machine and dissconect the power suply cord and the reconect the power and turn on again, when i mean team my english is not very good sorry is not what i try to say thanks........

Hmm...when putting your system together did you Clear the CMOS before the first power up? A lot of people miss this and usually don't have issues, some do...most instructions do state to clear CMOS before first power up. Might be an issue, might not...Have you tried booting at stock settings?

So when it's "frozen" holding the power button for 5-10 seconds does not shut off the machine? I'd say you're OC-ing too far w/o enough voltage or stability. I'd clear the CMOS and start overclocking from square one if I were you, I don't know what FSB you need to get that 8500 to 3.8, and I'm sure your 4GB of PC2 8500 can take it...but maybe not..the CPU or Memory may need more voltage...that's what it sounds like to me. When I OC too far sometimes, it might be stable one time, but then if I get freezes or stuck lights on the DVD/HDD, etc...I know it's an OC too far, and if I can reboot and get into BIOS, I'll lower things a bit or increase voltage, usually to CPU, NB/MCH, and/or Memory.

Maybe post your OC information so we can have a look and see if you're running something too low? Again, I still say clear CMOS and start over on the overclocking...if you get into Vista fine w/o issues at stock...then we're on the right track.

Remove 1 stick of ram and try and boot into windows, if it works, download and apply SP1 which contains the 4GB hotfix, had similar issues, wouldn't suspect your hard drive especially when you were able to fresh install it in the first place. Once installed, replace the other stick. Ty it and let us know. Oh back the OC off until you get your system stable.

to get 3.8 the system uses a 1600 FSB the memory is workin at 2.1v 960mhz 5-5-5-15-2t,
the voltage of cpu is 1.3v, personaly I think thaht could be a memory problemen, of course this values are using the IA Overclock use the safe settings to overclock
I use the hd tune and the hard disk is fine the windows have SP1
and yes if I holding the power button the machine turn off normaly and sometimes when star over the bios tel me that was interrupded and i need to check my configuration.
thanks......
