A few months ago, I was messing around in Linux. The goal was to familiarize myself with the terminal. I came across a program that test/checked if a hard drive had it's security feature enabled. It wasn't a cracker. It would scan the drive and determine if a password had been set. I totally forgot the name of the program, but it was pretty nice. Does anyone know what I'm referring to? I have a hard drive that I think might be password protected because it cannot be formatted or partitioned.

Perhaps I was a little vague. I believe I used a boot disc called Boot repair

I had experienced a password protected storage. When I replaced my laptop HDD to hybrid SSHD. Cant reformat or partition. It turns out I have to put back again my old HDD and remove the password. Then I can reformat.

I think there is a HDD program in linux in which it can easily reformat. Although it cant be read but it can be reformat. I forgot the name of that program. its been a while since I played around with linux. I still use linux though but only when I need to access my bank.

Your reply helped me change my search criteria. I was able to find it. The program is called hdparm.
