Hardware interrupt issue with sound card question

I installed an audigy zs platinum yesterday and then today I noticed my pc wasnt running as fast as usual. I downloaded process explorer to check for hardware interrupts and sure enough, I had 1 worth 15% cpu usage on core 1 constantly.

I shutdown, removed the sound card, booted up and everything was fine. No interrupts and the cpu usage was perfect.

My question is,

Does a hardware interrupt normally mean faulty hardware or could this be something I could possibly fix with a fresh install of windows?

I had another sound card with funky drivers installed prior to this new card so I don't know if things may be messy in my reg or if this new card is bunk..

I hope to be able to use this card since I bought it from [H] and the possibility of a refund is slim, please let me know anything I can try to see if this card can be salvaged.

Thanks alot!

Creative's driver's are a bit gammy to say the least, so that could be causing it. What OS are you using? 32-bit or 64-bit?

I'm using 64 win 7.

I just reinstalled win7 64 with only the soundcard installed and not the ide ribbon tethered i/o bay drive with it. As soon as the sound card drivers installed the hardware interupt returned.

Ah. Theres your problem. THe 64-bit creative drivers for Win7 are shoddy. It doesnt address the memory properly AFAIK. Had similar problems myself.

Here's the funny thing, I looked in device manager and no drivers had been installed yet. The hw conflict was there and as soon as I removed the card and booted up the Hw conflict was gone.

So even without drivers the problem was there, what could this mean?

I'll test it using another pc sometime over the weekend to try and figure out if it's the actual card that is having issues or my system not liking the card itself. My other PCI sound card works fine, no conflicts and it's just an Audigy SE.

I fixed it.. YAY.

I went through the device manager looking for irq matches to the irq the sound card was using which was 21.. I disabled the 1394 controller using 21 and voila, fixed.

Thank god
