i just replaced my mb with MSI PM8M-V and installed the MSI "PC ALERT 4" v4.1.2.4hardware monitor. i have p4 3.4ghz 800fsb with 2gb pc3200 ddr400 ram and 300gb hdd, geforce 7600gs 512mb video card, 400watt PSU with one 12v rail. i didn't change any settings or overclock anything.

every few days the 12v voltages show up as 1.86v and the alarm goes off. i check voltage and read 12.16v at the board on the cpu 4 pin plug as well as the drive plugs while at the same time the hardware monitor shows 1.86v so i know the monitor is in error.

restarting the computer usually fixes this issue for a day or two. on a few occassions i had to uninstall and reinstall the hardware monitor to fix the issue.

i just tried using "Hardware Monitor 5" and it also showed 1.86v on the 12v leg but when i uninstalled "Hardware Monitor 5" "pc alert 4" nows reads 12.16v the same as my volt meter continues to read.

as far as i can tell i have the latest drivers installed, i'm using VIA HyperionPro Driver Package v 5.11A, VIA_AC97_Audio_Driver_v3.98A, and VIA VT8237 Ethernet Lan Driver v4.3

how can i get rid of this gremlin sending false readings?

i had an issue like this one with ASUS probe and i eventually just gave up because every time i tested it at the board it was fine and it was not that critical that i know what the voltage was at

i guess it's just a compatability glitch because the cpu fan rpm shows at half of what it actually is when this voltage thing happens and i know for sure it hasnt changed either.

i just dont like things to be outta wack if i can solve the mystery.

i noticed MSI just put out new drivers so even though they arent as resent versions as i got at a general via driver site i will go with the MSI drivers and see if this thing goes away.

this issue first started with the drivers that came with the board so i searched out the very latest drivers hoping to fix it but it is still with me.

are MSI board sensers known to be unreliable? i ask this because they show cpu temp at 35 with system temp at 37 and the side cover isnt even on lol.

on another thread someone said i needed a new psu because that temp ment it wasnt getting enough amps to run hotter and that may be interfering with the sensor readings. but i have no other issues so i didnt consider it.
