I bought a 4850 about a month after they came out.It used to overclock well but now if i underclock or overclock.Amdgpuclocktool gives me a do not pass go.When i first bought the card it would do 715 1150.The fanfix never worked for me although im sure i did it right and tryed it a couple times although RBE did the trick.Ive done the voltmos wich had me up to 760 1150.I guess my question is are the drivers not allowing us to overclock anymore or am i doing something wrong. It's a diamond 4850 with the original heatsink.Temps have always been low as long as the fan is at 100%Do all u guys use ccc noe cuz ive always just used the drivers along with overclocking tools.Just want to run 3D06 and compare with an e8600 at the clocks i used to get.

Volt modding may not to be good to to to every brand. Some brands may be able to handle it and some not. I have never volt modded video cards and actually see no reason to if you have a decent card, but if you have a crappy card with low performance then it might be OK to try volt modding. Problem is that when you increase the volts temps. go up and affect other components of the card, and heat quickly shortens the life and performance and cane destroy a card or any electrical component or device.

Gotta agree with chris on that. Clock up to what you can through soft mods then I don't go any farther.

My 4850 is voltmodded and I use RivaTuner to OC it to 900/1100. But know that I am on water, not the stock cooler. I wouldn't go much above 750 on a reference cooler.

If your card has an aftermarket style air cooler, you could probably squeeze 825-850 out of it safely. With the amount of voltage it takes to go higher, I would suggest moving to water to go above that safely.
