Hey guys.

I just got my HDMI cable for my PS3.
I have it running and everything looks fantastic!

I would like to know something about the HDMI cables that I am unsure of and wish for someone to tell me whats right from wrong :D

With this HDMI cable, can I use the blu-ray disk drive to play Blu-ray movies??

With this HDMI cable, can I use this to watch HD DVDs??

How can I get the most out of my HDMI cable??

On another note, I noticed a feature on the PS3 called " PS Smoothing " its turned off...what does this do???

Thanks lads.

The PS3 only has a Blu-ray player, not an HD-DVD player. You don't need HDMI cables to watch Blu-ray movies, you need HDMI cables to get the best possible picture out of the movie (meaning whatever you tv can handle, 480i/p, 720i/p, 1080i/p). HDMI cables are used to get past 480i picture quality, and they also transfer sound as well.

A blu-ray player is really nothing without hdmi cables, because hdmi cables enable the best possible picture (and people who have blu-ray players want the best possible picture).

Thanks Ravenas! Thats more or less all I needed to hear :D

My TV supports 1080p and is running that for my PS3, The picture quality is very nice!

Is there any way to make standard TV channels look any better?? For example....watching a TV series like....say LOST...looks great! but it could be better...is it possible to get something to make them better??? Or am I dreaming??

Also, Do you know what PS Smoothing does for the PS3?

most TV HD programming is limited to 720p and occasionally 1080i, but as far as I know, there are no TV broadcasts in 1080p

AHh all right :p

Anyone know what PS Smoothing is yet??

I dont know if this is correct, but I think it smooths out the image a bit so there are no jagged edges when playing a game or viewing a movie.

Also (I don't know if you know this), but currently all PS3 games output at 720p, not 1080p.
Currently, your TV is what converts it from 720p to 1080p (hence why it doesnt look as nice as BluRay).
The only sources right now for 1080p are BluRay and HD DVDs.
All other high def items, like TV and games are 720p.

I agree that the PS3 games do look nice on my TV, but the BluRay looks even better.
Once you get your 5 BluRay DVDs you will see what I mean.

PS Smoothing is for old PS2/PS1 games to seem that they are played like they were on their designed hardware and for preventing a blurrry image when playing old games in 720/1080p.

Yes, you mail the rebate form, the cutout of the UPC label on the PS3 box and your original sales receipt. The mailing address is listed on the rebate form.

I am mailing mine in today, but the movie selection seems to be very limited.
