I have 2 monitors , both at 1920x1080.

However monitor 2 acts like an extended screen but that is not what i want .
I want to create a 3840x1080 so both screen act like one..

So far i tried to create a custom resolution in nvidia cp 3840x1080 but when i press test the screen goes black.

Can anyone help me out

Im using Nvidia gpu - displayport and dvi.

Hi

I do not think this is possible with current hardware config

-Extended screen is possible in 2d Only; [work round would be to extend desktop and open a game in a window and extend the window across both monitors [drawback is 3d core and mem clocks on the vga card *may not raise as intended and lock at lower Mhz]

-Assuming the focus of this is to work with full screen 3d gaming, would require a SLi compatible motherboard, a second GTX 460 and another monitor [*based on current hardware specs]

Best In Class 2D Surround Gaming requires 2x GTX 460's in SLi
•Game across three non-3D displays with resolutions up to 2560x1600.
•Supports landscape or portrait mode for ultimate display flexibility.

or

Upgrade to GTX 670 or similar vga card and add another monitor with matching resolution [*based on current hardware]

You can do it with AMD cards, and I'm sure there is some sort of way to do it with Nvida cards. Just go to your driver support area and just search around for NvidaSurround. It sucks with two screens though, it makes the center of your screen, or where your crosshairs would be in BF3 in between your two monitors and its impossible to control. I would just do what LAW said, and game on one monitor and have videos, music or TS on the second one.

Im planning to get the 4gb gtx670 , so basically the gtx460 is limited to 1080p on each screen and i cant make it span across to like 3840x1080?

I actually dont game alot and i wouldnt game on 2 screens if im playing a fps game. Maybe games like anno on this is fine for me. Id prefer it to act as a whole and resize the window - i find that more flexible then an extended screen as i have to drag the programs to the other side which i find annoying.

Thanks anyway

Hi

so basically the gtx460 is limited to 1080p on each screen

No; [as mentioned on the Nvidia Web Site [Link was in previous post]; GTX 460 supports up to 2560x1600 Maximum Resolution (With Bezel Correction): 8192x1600 across three monitors] Note: using a 1080p monitor is limiting factor.

What Nvidia Software dose not do support Dual Monitors or full screen gaming with Dual Monitors

Windows supports extended desktop

Id prefer it to act as a whole and resize the window - i find that more flexible then an extended screen as i have to drag the programs to the other side which i find annoying

Maybe Windows settings and or a third party application would be needed to keep desktop settings in place when using windows extended view

Upgrading to GTX 670
2D Desktop/3D Gaming with surround with Three Monitor support and should allow for 2D surround with dual monitors

Edit: If gaming is not a priority; could use a GTX 650/ti or GTX 660/ti maybe more cost effective

nb: spend some time reading the Nvidia web site

Edit test GTX 460 with different cables combinations of DVI and HDMI
