Help me choose a processor.

I had originally planned to get 3570K after selling my 2500K. Changed my mind.

Now I need a quad core with a bang for buck but not 3570K because I will be wasting money on it. No!, no 3570 either.

As you can see my build, it's proper bang for buck (for me at least) and consumes less power too, which means I am happy.

Now I can go with a Core i3 3rd Gen but I want power too and that i3 would most probably bottleneck the overall power of the PC.

So, which quad core should I aim for which will not bottleneck anything and would not be killed by games like Metro Last Light and Crysis 3?. I dont care if it's 2.5GHz, it has to provide 50+FPS keeping the limitation of GPU aside (or lets presume that a 680 is installed).

Suggestions please. Keep in mind, price is the biggest factor here.

Current CPU, G630, will go for 50 to 55$.

I seen some 3ghz i7 engineering samples going cheap on eBay just make sure your motherboard can support it.

Pretty much any quad by amd or intel over 3ghz is more than fast enough for any game.

i5 3450? its a successor to the i5 2400 which i use and it provides me with more than enough power for gaming

It also depends quite a bit on local pricing. Worth considering is that if you overclock the 3570K it is easily a 4Ghz processor, and if you compare with a *mere* 3.1Ghz of the 3450 suddenly the $30 difference seems money well spent.

Going AMD means OP will have to change his board. Not a sensible option for bang for buck I think.

I am not talking about metro 2033. I am talking about the upcoming metro (LL) considering I wrote 'Crysis 3' with it.

1: Before needing so many GHz, I'll run out of the graphic power. So balancing act, it is.

2: Not overclocking, hence no need for K series.

3: Not video editing.

based on this, i would say an i5 3450 or 3550 would best suit your needs

If you keep everything at stock and only overclock towards the end of the life of the rig (ie in 3 years time) you will benefit from both worlds.

Well if you are not thinking that far (the lifespan of the rig) then you will never get the most efficient price/perf

If you are planning to sell it in a year or two's time 3570K will fetch better money in resellers' market.

Thank You for bringing this up.

Now, as I like most bang for power, and when I asked the 3570K owner to do an IBT test for me, I was pretty amazed that how damn quickly it went through the test compared to my 2500K while using some watts less. Only difference was that he had the stock 1600MHz rams and I have the stock 1333MHz rams.

So, I was sold. Plus, 3470 equals and surpasses nearly all benchmarks compared to 2500K. Then again, I am not overclocking otherwise all that doesn't matter.

I will take anything that gives the power of 2500K while using less juice (watts).

For example, I love this little G630 and it's power consumption but it's only good damn enough for watching 1080p movies. Gaming?. No way. NEED MORE POWHA!.

But the 2500K is only 95W and really wont use that unless pushed to its absolute max like use IBT or Prime95 24/7

Most of the time with power savings on it would just rest at 1.6ghz even while browsing facebook and light duties.

I would have kept the 2500k or at least got the K edition if you're going to go 3570 and if power is a concern you should have gotten the low power varient, the 3570T.

Have fun with your new CPU but I seriously doubt it will feel any different than the 2500k if you don't consider overclocking.
