I have been waiting and waiting for a simple "NOKIA" if you will, version of "VR". No not the so much the CHUNK, but the pure simplicity of its function: Display
I do not care too much about eye tracking, head tracking, gyros, blah blah blah. Only 3 basics! Display! Audio! Mic! Powered by a power cable or heck just do a TB3/TB4 (to include power) and call it a day.
I am a simple person and that is all I want. No wireless bluetooth nonsense. No wifi. Just provide me my 3 basic needs. Am I going crazy?
Everyone is making all these dystopian devices that will make people miserable in the near future and all I want is just a private display.

Can you define your usage for such a device?

just a screen on my face with no more extra capabilities than regular monitor. y'know? Would use that in place of a monitor and it would not require some special VR environment. I would still be using a keyboard and mouse, although in hindsight keyboard might take extra time to learn with the F keys or special characters. Usage would be normal like you would any day for a PC. Browsing internet, playing games, reading, movies, the usual we all are familiar with

What you want is hard to find given you need passthrough cameras to make the existing keyboard and mouse work in addition to it being lightweight and high resolution.

Nothing currently on the market does all that to a satisfactory level. The quest 3 is a decent and cheap entry point I suppose but it's not light and the resolution isn't there yet. That said, a lot of lightweight XR headsets (which is what you need) are coming out this year from the likes of Sony, Lenovo, Samsung, and others that may be what you want.

That right there...
Playing games. Sound simple but its really not.
For it work correctly and avoiding make you sick and throw up in a few minutes, it needs to track head as precisely as possible. So when you turn your head 20 degrees in what ever direction the FOV image should turn exactly 20° in that direction.
Let alone all the other specs like resolution for example.

Simplicity doesn't always work

Maybe I am missing something here? I never have to turn my head when I am looking at a monitor so why do I need it for this? I don't want VR games or anything. Just use it like a normal PC and you're saying that will have those issues?

Yes I was talking about VR games.
But I get it now... eventually

Facebook's acquisition of Occulus and then the required Facebook account pissed off all of my generation that are the ones with disposable income and do not even trust the Cloud much less Facebook. Everyone was excited for the next generation headset from Occulus until then. Though there are options like Pimax. I don't know if Deepon are still around but Steam seem to be the most viable but the biggest desire among those users is a wireless headset. The improvement in resolution and FOV has mitigated a lot of the sickness issues. The rise of SIM racing may lead to someone taking the plunge but 3 50" Curved 4K monitors are sold as being more immersive.

When it works, it works. There is a Game called Space Hack where you can pass by the Planets in the Solar System. The most immersive was Project Cars 2 with the interior of the car being what you see. Space Sims like the Original Everspace are also fun. The most popular Game(s) is probably Beat Saber and Half Life.

In VR what you see is just what is on screen. You will turn your head, just like you do naturally, when you hear a sound is an example. VR is VR if you are afraid of heights it can trigger you too.
